PAP MP Patrick Tay denies meeting homeless resident; but colleague insists she did

Posted by temasektimes on May 2, 2012

PAP MP for Nee Soon East Patrick Tay Teck Guan has denied meeting a homeless Malay resident Sapiah during his Meet-the-People session.

In a comment posted on The Temasek Times, Mr Tay wrote:

“Saw this posting and am checking as I did not recall meeting Ms Sapiah last Monday at my MPS personally giving such an insensitive advice. We always endeavour to do our best to assist our residents – Patrick Tay, MP for Nee Soon East.”

He also clarified that he did make the insensitive remark to Sapiah on his Facebook:

Sapiah is single and currently earns about $1,600 monthly working in a hotel. As her sister is selling their parents’ flat, Sapiah has been given three months by HDB to move out or get evicted.

She was allegedly told by Mr Patrick Tay to find a higher paying job in order to buy the HDB flat during a Meet-the-People session.

Her encounter was shared by an angry colleague on Facebook:

We have checked with ‘Princess Ivah’ again who confirmed that Sapiah did meet Mr Patrick Tay:

Mr Patrick Tay is free to contact us at temasektimes@yahoo.com and we will be more than willing to publish his side of the story to clear up the misunderstanding, if any.

Wa, so fast already saw this posting? If so, can I assume the Ministers are checking these pages or their FB pages regularly, either themselves or via their helpers? If so, then they sure cannot miss the posts on our difficulties and suffering.

Since we have not had any replies or acknowledgement from them on these posts, can I assume they do not care? So much for Singaporeans first and doing everything for you… only the daft 60% will fall for it…

just look through their records la, every person who goes to the MPS will need to register using their NRIC.

“He also clarified he did make the insensitive remark to Sapiah on his Facebook” – Freudian slip, lack of editing or hidden agenda? Come on TT, you can do better than this. He claims to have made a reply which is awaiting moderation, which I find unlikely since I can comment here without having it go through moderation… but please address this. Skipping over this part of his FB post and claiming “we will be more than willing to publish his side of the story to clear up the misunderstanding, if any.” does not really put a good light on your editorial team.

My bad, forgot that there was moderation. So TT, the ball is in your court.

The best solution will be to arrange a face to face meeting with the 3 parties… this so call “Ms Sapiah”, princess ivah and patrick tay…
