Yaacob Ibrahim: Govt has stepped up efforts to ‘engage’ Singaporeans since last election
Posted by temasektimes on May 5, 2012
The government has stepped up its efforts to ‘engage’ Singaporeans since the last General Election, said Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim.
“We have stepped up our engagement and there was a call for more voices to be heard and more voices to be invited in some of the processes,” Dr Yaacob said.
He added that the government is now engaging as many people as possible to seek their feedback and views before formulating a policy:
“What we have done across the government, stat boards and agencies is to engage as many people as possible before a policy is created or after a policy has been thought through to get some feedback to refine the policy.”
The government will also use social media such as Facebook and Twitter to reach out to more Singaporeans and to promote constructive debate in cyberspace.
“The more important point is to provide our point of view and also allow constructive debate to take place. It is positive because we recognise that society has changed and if society has changed, we also have to change according to the norms.”

What load of crap. PAP never believe in change. They will put forth an impression of change. The bottomline is always self preservation. They will always want to protect their own self serving interests. I will never believe anything from this “once in 50 years” idiot.

Feedback or praises?
A world of difference. Ur so called policy to engage more people is actually looking for people to sing your praises.
Negative but constructive ones are deemed as noise and will be deleted.

Unless it’s with sincerity and honesty, your efforts will be useless.

Inche Yaacob Ibrahim is in Parliament long enough to have his own opinion and not to PARROT what was mentioned. He is a full fledge Minister and should have done more for the Country and its People. Given his years in Singapore politics he should DO HIS UTMOST to help his people but he does not seems to be doing so. VERY SAD CASE

the truth is:
Govt has stepped up its wayang to look like ‘engaging’ Singaporeans since last election.
Think about it..
- put up facebook page to tell people what you eat for dinner,
- delete post that ask sincere but difficult questions,
- keeping post by foreigners who 拍马屁 and PLP, but delete replies that give sound rebuttal.
- empty words like “Singaporean is always our priority”..
- bukit brown saga where citizen groups earnest to present ideas, but government delays the meeting, then restrict the numbers who allowed to attend, and finally meet but only a one way monologue of government’s view..
you call that real engagement?

This minister was a failure as an Environment Minister for his hopelessness in dealing with dirty food handlers leading to hordes of ppl falling sick after eating hawkers’ fare and with 1 or more fatalities to boot. Appropriately, he shd take responsibility and resign as the minister in charge. But in true PAPie mode, he shamelessly stays his course as a PAPie minister, now 2 talk cock on this and that.
This minister has no sense of shame or direction and merely sways with the wind. His past record as an Environment Minister is dismal and his present and future records wld likely be much the same. The level of engagement he envisages with the common ground wld probably be dismal, conforming to his true colours as a very mediocre politician. But, of course, he’s content with blowing hot air for all his 2-cent worth.
