Khaw Boon Wan on Marsiling fire: It could have gone ‘very bad’

Posted by temasektimes on May 7, 2012

In the aftermath of the fire at Block 4 Marsiling Road on Friday, MP for Sembawang GRC and National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan visited the victims yesterday morning.

In a comment posted on Facebook, Mr Khaw said it is fortunate that there were no casualties as it could have gone ‘very bad.’

“The neighbours have also settled down though full recovery will take a few days. TC has rewired the units, except two as the tenants were not around. Repainting will start tomorrow. Fortunately, not fatality. But it could have gone very bad. Lucky this time,” he wrote.

Mr Khaw added that he has asked the Town Council to remind residents not to leave bulky items such as mattresses and chairs along HDB corridors:

“We should not take this lightly. Told TC to more actively ask residents to remove things from common spaces, if they look like safety hazards.

Initial investigations revealed that the fire started at the 11th floor lift lobby, where a resident, 58-year-old odd-job labourer Samat Kidam, had left large items such as mattresses, chairs and tables. The police have classified the case as mischief by fire.

Khaw should be more concerned about people using HDB flats as hotels because these people do not need flats and are pushing up resale prices to profit. The priority is this and not red herring like bulky things along common areas. Why is HDB not doing their jobs of going after all these illegal sub-letting ?

This S$ 8.00 superman who advised Singaporeans to leave their elderly parents in old aged homes in JB should be more concerned about PRs renting their HDB flats as short term stay to foreigners, then on a rare occurance of fire in a lift landing.

Ah Khaw, please don’t wayang to distract us from the more important issues, okay ??

The fire is no big deal, not as though some ass-in-white was set on fire.
KhawBW should personally help to stake out the so called ‘faeces bomber’ in the Ponggol estate. It will be a damn good strategy if he volunteers himself as target to lure the culprits.
