TR Emeritus apologizes to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

Controversial socio-political blog ‘TR Emeritus‘ has issued a public apology on its website to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for causing him undue ‘distress’ over a defamatory article published on the site last week.
On Sunday, the self-proclaimed editor of the site Richard Wan received a lawyer’s letter from Senior Counsel Davinder Singh asking him to remove the offending article and to publish an apology on it by Friday, failing which legal proceedings will commence.
The short apology reads:
“We admit and acknowledge that this allegation is false and completely without foundation. We unreservedly apologise to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for the distress and embarrassment caused to him by this allegation.”
It is not revealed if ‘TR Emeritus’ will release the identity and particulars of its contributor “Matthew Chua” who wrote the article to PM Lee as requested by his lawyers which will surely betray the trust of its loyal readers.
Mr Wan is the only editor living in Singapore while the rest are based overseas. Till today, nobody knows the identity of the owner of ‘TR Emeritus’ or where it receives its funding from.
It remains to be seen if the Singapore government will demand the site to be gazetted as a political organization eventually as what it did to another blog last year.
Meanwhile, Mr Wan should be mentally prepared to receive more lawyers’ letters in the future on behalf of his other foreign editors and he is unlikely to be so lucky to be let off with only a ‘slap on the wrist’ the next time.
