“Why are you visiting us dogs?” – netizen asks Baey Yam Keng on his ‘House Visit:’

Posted by temasektimes on February 22, 2012

When PAP MP Baey Yam Keng posted a poster of his House Visit this evening at Blk 462 Tampines North on his Facebook, he certainly did not expect this reply from netizen Kelvin Lim who asked him:

“Why are you visiting us dogs?”

Mr Baey has earlier courted controversy when he told the media that Singaporeans should also reflect on themselves if there is any truth in what the foreigners had said about them, in response to the public outcry triggered by the insensitive remarks posted by NUS PRC scholar Sun Xu on there being ‘more dogs than humans in Singapore’ on his microblog ‘Weibo’ last Saturday.

Though Sun Xu’s comment was widely condemned by Singaporeans, including MediaCorp actor Tay Ping Hui, Mr Baey was one of the few who spoke up publicly in defence for him.

In the interview, Mr Baey said Singaporeans have to accept that, within every community, there will be some who will tarnish the reputation of their peers.

“We (also) need to reflect, are we the way that they described?”

It is not known if Mr Baey’s remarks were ‘misquoted’ or ‘taken out of context’ by the journalist as many netizens are flabbergasted by what he has said.

Ong Yu Shan asked Mr Baey on his Facebook:

“are you saying we Singapore should reflect are we DOGS? You are a MP! Remember as MP, you should responsible of your actions! Is this a responsible act from you?!?!?”

Wong An Kian added:

“disgusted by his comments, I cant believe our mp asked us to reflect when someone scold us dogs”

It appears that Mr Baey has taken the feedback from netizens seriously as he posted a statement shortly thereafter to redeem himself:

It will be interesting to hear what his ‘views’ are later on after his House Visit to Tampines residents (not dogs).

Whatever it is, even if there is an IOTA of truth in what that prc scholar said. THERE IS NO NEED TO label anyone as dogs. “Uncouth” would have already been an overstatement. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for us to reflect on ourselves on the term “DOG”. That said, THERE IS ALSO ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for any human being to reflect on themselves whether there is any semblance to a “DOG”.

MP Baey didn’t call us dogs. Its opposition supporters who are trying to put words into his mouth.
Perhaps Temasek Times too needs to reflect on its objectivity

Hahaha …..Mr. Baey Yam Keng is having a lot dog shit being pooed onto his face……for his “dogged” defence of the ungratful overgrown PRC. kid …

Mr Baey is not even one of the “TOP Dogs” of the ruling Elites…the highest I woud grade him is a “Running Dog” Level…..pun on dogs intended…..hehehehehe

Mr. Baey stop “baying” (baeying) at the moon and come down to earth….and spend more time everyday with the ordinary “Uncles” and “Aunties” in the constituency you represent.

I am Singaporean btw, and KNS not my fault also get scolded for “pushing” by an inconsiderate Singaporean who wants her “personal space” when everyone else wants to come into the MRT during peak hour. HELP YOUR FELLOW SINGAPOREANS LAH. If you want to save money and take public transport, accept the fact that you will be jostled, and stop being like yappy complaining dogs! Learn to be polite can?

What talent? If they are talents, they would have received scholarship from their own nation. And not receive offer of scholarship from other countries like how beggars accept offerings from strangers.
