‘FT Technician’ on Work Permit: Occupation of PRC man who caused fatal accident at Budget Terminal

Posted by temasektimes on March 18, 2012

According to reports in the Chinese media, the notorious 30 year old PRC man who assaulted a Singaporean taxi-driver and drove off with his taxi before causing a fatal accident at the Budget Terminal is working as a ‘FT technician’ on a work permit in Singapore.

The PRC man flagged a taxi along Still Road in the early hours of Saturday morning to the Budget Terminal. He was chatting with the taxi-driver Mr Yeow along the way before accusing him of stealing and hiding his things.

Mr Yeow claimed he was punched on his head and ears by the PRC man before he pressed the distress button on the cab and stopped it in front of the McDonald restaurant at the Budget Terminal.

After he got out of the taxi, the PRC man sat in the driver’s seat and drove off with it before driving into the driveway of the Budget Terminal moments later and killing a cleaning supervisor on the spot.

Instead of checking the condition of the cleaner, the PRC man stepped out of the vehicle and sat on a chair at the McDonald’s. He wanted to flee when he saw two police officers approaching him, but was stopped in time by a passer-by.

“When we arrived at Changi General Hospital, the PRC man was still shouting at the police to allow him to return to China,” Mr Yeow added.

It is not known if the PRC man’s work permit has expired and he is returning to China for good. Police will be charging him with voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.

If convicted, he can be sentenced to between five years and 20 years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.

[We have received some queries from members of the public regarding how they can help with donations to the family of the late Mr Chandra Mogan. Mr Mogan died in the Saturday morning accident at the Budget Terminal, where he worked as a cleaner.

For the convenience of those who wish to assist, they can make their cheques to “Pusparani A/P Mogan” and mail them to The Mogan Family c/o Changi Airport Group, Corporate Communications, PO Box 168, Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore 918146. Cheques should reach CAG no later than Friday, 30 March 2012. You may wish to indicate your name at the back of the cheque.

Mr Mogan leaves behind his mother, his wife and four children (aged 9, 7 and 5 years and 2.5 months). We extend our condolences to Mr Mogan’s family.]
