Teacher jailed 10 years for ‘sexually penetrating’ a 8 year old boy twice

The 38-year-old had admitted to two counts of molesting an 11-year-old and eight-year-old and two counts of penetrating another eight-year-old in 2009 including two counts of ‘sexually penetrating’ a minor
The court learnt that he had used a PlayStation Portable (PSP) game console to distract the boy before ‘bending down’ to give oral sex to him. The same tactic was used on another boy who was eight at the time.
His sexual acts with the students came to light only when the school’s principal received two complaints from a parent and a pupil.
Despite the vile act, the teacher does not appear to be repentant in court as he said to the judge in mitigation:
“I hope that the court will take into consideration that I have no previous criminal record and to be lenient in sentencing.”
Asking for a stiff sentence to be imposed, deputy public prosecutor S. Sellakumaran said:
“The parents of the victims could not decide on which teachers would be teaching their children. Indeed, they had no reason to so decide as they were entitled to expect that all teachers in the school would uphold the unreserved trust placed in them and adhere to the highest professional and moral standards.”
The latest scandal involving teachers come barely two weeks after another 37 year old male teacher was arrested for installing three pin-hole cameras in a girls’ toilet in school. A week earlier, a 39 year old former primary school principal was reported to have been among a group of men questioned by the police in connection with an online vice ring.
In response to media queries, Education Minister Heng Swee Kiat said it is important not to let “one or two incidents” tarnish the image of the teaching profession, because there are many good teachers around.
He added that there would be a couple of black sheep from time to time in spite of efforts to maintain professional standards.
