PHOTO: The alleged PRC driver who ran over 66 year old Singaporean aunty at Sengkang

Posted by temasektimes on April 4, 2012

A shocking accident happened yesterday morning in Sengkang where a SBS Transit bus simply ran over a 66 year old woman crossing the road when making a right turn, dragging her under the bus for half a minute and killing her on the spot.

He was obviously ‘dreaming’ as the brake lights were not even on after he hit the woman.

According to the Straits Times, the SBS driver then spoke in a thick Chinese (PRC) accent to the passengers to disembark from the bus as if nothing has happened:

He appeared to be calm and composed when he was led away by the traffic police. It is not known if he has been arrested for dangerous driving.

SBS Transit has so far refused to divulge the name and nationality of the driver. It has been actively recruiting drivers from China in the last few years due to ‘shortage’ of local workers.

Having a minimum wage will probably attract locals to jobs that was once shunned.

I’m confused. So is the lady 66 yrs old or 33 yrs old or were there 2 separate incidents.

no need minimum wage, pay as per according to the market rates with perks attractive enough for the locals … there will be tons of applications … just that the top brass of the SBS wants more profits thats y they only hire PRC …

I hope they realise now that it is very important to increase the wage structure for public bus drivers, so that more Singaporeans will be attracted to the job.

“He appeared to be calm and composed when he was led away by the traffic police.” To him, run over someone on the road is a common thing in china. Still remember the 3 yr old girl who ran over by trucks twice and passersby can just treat as nothing happen. Shocking China…

Incident happen on pedestrian crossing show it is still horrible and unsafe for pedestrian when we use it, look up for all directions still need to do so for our own safety, more heavy punishment should double it when traffic accident happen on this suppose to be safe for pedestrian walkways. Bus driver especially those foreign drivers should be more training and reminder for their daily duty to avoid such a incident happen again and again

My hubby (pure true local bred Singaporean)once went for the interview in SBS and was turn down as he is 45 years old at that time. So he has no choice but to go for taxi lesson and now he work as a taxi driver. So who says local doesn’t want to work, it is just that they still prefer PRC. Cheap? I don’t really think so but no good for sure. They are the one who spoilt our market.

we can remove all the pedestrian crossing already, jay walk is safer as we ourselves will look out for cars that are oncoming. lolol.

    LUI TUCK YEW, you s.o.b.
get all your PRC trash bus drivers out of the island NOW.
step down you naval clown, people are tired of Saw and then they are angry and furious at YOU.
This Driver, he is like the spider web – the more you dust them off, the more webs will be spun…but in order to eradicate these cobwebs the spider and its relatives must all be squished or terminated. GET IT? Which PART of Terminated you don’t bloody understand Lui Tuck Yew? for a former military man you certainly are filled with thick dough between your blocked ears.

And i hope this driver gets to hang at the gallows, but not before the family successfully sues him, SBS and you, Lui. and then its time for you to quit public service forever without pension or severance – you don’t deserve gratuity, you deserve many slaps behind your thick skull.

This is not the 1st time…remember an old lady whose head was crushed by a bus last year? The driver is also a PRC.

Safe doesn’t mean you can walk without knowing what’s around you, or being alert to potential threats. Use common sense, or else the laws of natural selection might apply.

why no one question about traffic system, few years back i wrote to lta for not sharing same green light with pedestrian, because of live concern. but, replied it is safe and it help smooth traffic, i dont agreed car already fast on wheel how fast they want, we’re just asking these few second times to be reserve for pedestrian right only, how bad can the traffic be,i remember during my childhood the green light on the traffic light is only reserve for pedestrian, and we got very great security when using it but not anymore i not sure since when and who had change it to current system.

Why are there lots of prc as our bus drivers? Sorry to say this but i find them heartless at times! They drove speedy fast even on busy roads and peak hours, and when there are eldery pax who are visibly seen very fragile, frail, on walking stick board the bus, they just simply start moving off with a jerk and great speed, without letting these elderly pax a chance to get to their seats first. I saw it, especially sbs service 24, tibs service 858 namely and more other services…

Horrifying experiences while taking a ride on a feeder bus with a sleepy PRC bus driver….
He drives snakely on the road, making sharp turn on traffic ligth junctions, pedestrian crossings and napping whilst passenger boarding the bus…
    What Happen!!!?
Maybe too long hours of working…cheap labour yet its cost many lives to sacrificed…
Sued them in millions of dollars yet they wont lose a cent?
Ministry of Transportation should look into this matters seriously…
Whose will be the next victim of this loose system?
