Breaking News: By-election for Hougang called on 26 May

Posted by temasektimes on May 9, 2012

The Singapore government has called for a by-election Hougang to be held on 26 May.

Nomination for Hougang by-election has been fixed on 16 May, says President Tony Tan Keng Yam in writ of election.

Serangoon Junior College will be the nomination centre. Polling Day for the by-election is not a public holiday.

The seat of Hougang was left vacant after its former Workers Party MP Yaw Shin Leong was sacked from the party three months ago for his failure to address swirling rumors around his alleged extra-marital affairs with multiple women, including two party members.

After his sordid affairs were exposed, Mr Yaw went ‘missing in action’ and fled Singapore a few days later, leaving Hougang residents in the lurch without a full-time MP.

Fortunately, Hougang residents have been taken care of by PAP grassroots leader Desmond Choo since then who conducts weekly ‘tea-party’ sessions to meet them at Hougang Community Club.

Mr Choo has also set up a job hub for unemployed Hougang residents and distributed free hearing aids to the elderly lately. He is now lobbying to set up a new wet market in Hougang.

Won’t be surprised if Desmond in the upcoming by-election garner more votes for PAP then the last GE; his relentless efforts to help the residents will endear the voters to him, while the immoral escapades of the WP ex-incumbent and the recent inept performance of the WP team in Parliamentary debate have disillusioned some voters . . . . . . .

    • tongue have no bones said

you say WP is immoral, what about Teh Cheng Wan the former and ex- cabinet minister of the PAP government who then committed suicide, why,(dead man tell no tales) so no skeleton bones can be found when the PAP closet is prise open

What about also those foregone conclusion PAP elected member of parliament who sacked,so wake up man,… do your homework

However, Desmond’s efforts are likely to be thwarted by the anti-local pro-foreigner policies of the PAP at the national level . . . . .

The people of Hougang should stay steadfast to ensure that the Hougang seat would remain with the opposition party. Never mind who won, the main thing The PAP should be defeated outright by the voters of Hougang constituency.
Don’t let them any room of manouevre for them to exploit the people in Hougang in order to get them the chance to grap away this very precious constituency from the opposition control. We expect the people of Hougang will stick to their guns and hold the fortress tight and eventually victory prevails.

All The Best, and Good Luck to the people of Hougang for this important journey of endeavours to prove it once again!!!
Not forgetting for the extraordinary done by the two individual namely the respected Mr Ravi and the heroic Madam Velamma Marimuthu in their effort to get this democratic rights materialised. Hail the people of Hougang! Hail the Opposition Workers Party! in the battle of true democracy for the whole nation of Singapore. God Bless Singapore!
