Png Eng Huat will not use his newly setup Facebook page till the by-election is over

Posted by temasektimes on May 13, 2012

In a sign that the Workers Party is confident of its chances in Hougang, its candidate Png Eng Huat is abandoning his Facebook page barely a few days after it was started.

In a short statement posted on his Facebook page two days ago, Mr Png admitted he is a Facebook novice and added that he will not use the Facebook page until the by-election is over:

While politicians have been using social media to connect with young voters in Singapore, Mr Png doesn’t seem to find the need to do so as he can count on the Workers Party’s ‘safe bank’ of votes in Hougang – hardcore supporters who will vote for the party no matter who the candidate is.

According to party insiders, WP will be focusing on walkabouts to reach out to Hougang voters in the old fashioned way and it is very confident of retaining their support in spite of the Yaw Shin Leong sex scandal.

Meanwhile, PAP candidate Desmond Choo has been updating his Facebook page several times a day to reach out to the young voters in Hougang.

Despite his best efforts, many political observers has written his chances off, including its ‘unofficial’ newsletter Yahoo News which predicted an ‘easy victory’ for Mr Png. WP supporters have already popped the champagne to celebrate WP’s victory with some predicting a bigger margin for the party.

The seat of Hougang was left vacant after its ex-WP MP Yaw Shin Leong was sacked from WP for his refusal to address swirling rumors around his alleged extramarital affairs with multiple married women, including two female leaders in WP who contested in the general election last year.

Till today, WP has yet to account to the public of what happened and its leaders have seen no need to do so.

Png gave a valid reason why he is not using his facebook page for now, yet the pro Desmond Choo TT couldn’t resist taking a cheap shot at him… and end the article once again by linking it to Desmond’s facebook page.

Hey, lots of netizens are complaining that their comments got deleted in Desmond’s facebook page.

Why don’t you do an article on that ????

TT, your anti-WP bias is blinding. Gahmen has so far not come clean on its investigation into the SCDF and CNB 3 -way sex scandal in which the law might have been breached but somehow Yaw has to be accountable for his personal indiscretions. As for the importance of having a FB account to reach constituent members, that’s very much over-rated as most of your posts gleaned from PAPies FB accounts have shown– NATO. FB can never take the place of one on one interaction which comes with meeting the grounds people themselves.

TT. I think your last statement was indeed bias to WP.

In which way did they not be accountable? They issue statement and given a time frameto YSL to ask him to stand up and clarify. To which they had no choice but to chop off their left arm so they can be accountable to everyone.

I did not see such actions taken by PAP when so many of their ministers committ mistakes in their national policies whom had affected people lives.

Why the snarky tone in reporting something so inconsequential?
