Political analysts: Yaw Shin Leong’s ‘apology’ has made things worse for Workers Party

Posted by temasektimes on May 20, 2012

Former disgraced WP MP Yaw Shin Leong’s public ‘apology’ to Hougang residents three months after he left them in a lurch may have ‘sabotaged’ WP’s campaign for the Hougang by-election instead of helping them, said political analyst and Nominated MP Eugene Tan.

The seat of Hougang was left vacant this year after Yaw was unceremoniously sacked from WP for his failure to address swirling rumors about his alleged extramarital affairs with multiple married women, including two key female leaders of WP who contested in the General Election last year.

In an email apology sent to the media, Yaw apologized for causing ‘inconvenience’ to Hougang voters by his abrupt departure, but did not confirm or deny the rumors about his personal indiscretions.

Speaking to queries from the media, Mr Eugene Tan opined that Yaw’s ‘reappearance’ has brought public attention to his sex scandal again:

“WP was about to close the chapter and move on. His apology without explaining if the allegations were true will cause more harm than good to WP’s campaign,” he said.

However, another political analyst Professor Lai felt Yaw’s apology from overseas may help to win back some votes for WP from its supporters who are disillusioned by recent reports of disunity and infighting within the party.

During an election rally in Hougang last year, WP Chief Low Thia Kiang promised Hougang voters that they will never be ‘abandoned’ by WP. Less than half a year later, they are left without a MP and a by-election has to be called for them to choose  another one.

PAP Rally this evening at:

7:00pm at Hougang Stadium, 100 Hougang Ave. 2 S538856

Oh really? I don’t think so…a man’s personal life was all over the media..smearing campaign to the max. Wp sacked him .not all the party has the balls to do that. Then he comes back and apologise ,which is the right thing to do..SO LET’S MOVE ON .Let’s welcome Mr Png . Singapore needs change, not running with leaders growing roots under their chair..

TT, as I have said in the past and I say it now again, you are so glaringly biased against WP.

You superficially attempt to appear to be balanced in your editorials by presenting or quoting both sides of arguments or opinions, but its so plainly obvious that you obsess on the negative aspects and this is furthermore thrown up in your headline captions.

You seem to be no better than our much maligned mainstream media in this case. So what is your agenda?

Yaw betrayed the trust of Hougang voters. What does he hope to do with this apology? To get back into the good books of the WP?
And why should Hougang residents trust the WP again?

Why should Singaporeans continue to trust PAP after they fouled up with the immigration policies, the economic policies, the privatisation of essential services like electricity and transport, the “swiss standard of living” promised by none other than the then-PM?
PAP has done more wrongs and ALL without accountability and transparency. At least WP took action over a member’s indiscreet eprsonal affairs. PAP did not even take action against the Minister whose department’s lack of good pratice allowed a highly dangerous terrorist’s escape and another minister’s gross over spending in YOG.

Temasek Times and Temasek Review (TR EMERITUS) are two different sites. Former is a pro-PAP site disgused as a pro-opposition site. The latter is the correct pro-opposition site.

I guess its the usual strategy by PAP. When failed to convinced then you confuse. Well done. *clap* *clap*

I think it is best that YawSL makeout with some female PAP members. This is the surest way to stop the PAP assholes from hounding him, ever again……
