Desmond Choo: I will continue to serve in Hougang

Posted by temasektimes on May 27, 2012

Despite a second defeat in a year, PAP losing candidate for Hougang by-election Desmond Choo has vowed to continue serving in Hougang.

Mr Choo managed to garner only 37.91% of the votes, a slight increase of about 3% from last year. The Workers Party’s candidate Png Eng Huat won by 62.09% of the votes.

Speaking to queries from the media if he will remain in Hougang, Mr Choo replied:

“You’ll definitely see me here on May 28, because the residents still need help.”

Mr Choo has helped set up a job hub for unemployed residents, a TCM clinic for the elderly and a free legal clinic in Hougang in the last one year, but his efforts are still not enough to win over Hougang voters who are staunch supporters of the Workers Party.

However, Mr Choo was ‘glad’ that change has started in Hougang:

“I feel the warmth of the hearts we’ve touched. I’ll make sure we build on that momentum.”

He is also gracious in defeat, congratulating Mr Png for his victory:

“I want to congratulate Png. He’s worked very hard on the ground, deserves to represent Hougang.”

That’s right. Hougang (and many more other wards) should continue to vote opposition and then let the losing PAP candidate be the grassroot adviser. You get 2 for the price of one.

Desmond, you can always continue to play 2nd fiddle to whoever the opposition puts up.

Temasek Times’ editors must be really disappointed that months of propaganda for Desmond Choo still couldn’t win it for him. You know why? Coz pple see thru your schemes too easily.

That is the spirit of losing gracefully. Three cheers to WP that despite facing an opposition with a huge machinery behind Choo and the unfortunate cause of this re-election due to sacking of Yaw, they still were able to succeed in securing the support of the constituents. Now with two Parties working hard to serve and win the hearts of the residents in this constituency, what more can they ask for. Congratulations to all as there are no losers but winners from both ends.

PAP should give the fellow a chance… Place him with Goh Choc Tong.

Place TPL to contest in hougang instead. She cant possibly do worse. Can she? Lol.
