Ang is currently a student with the Australian Defence Force Academy and allegedly committed the offence when he entered the room of a female cadet without her consent and perform some ‘indecent acts’ there of which the exact nature has not been revealed yet.
He is currently out of bail and his passport has been impounded. Ang is scheduled to appear in a Canberra court again on 9 August.
In an interview with the media, MINDEF’s director of public affairs Colonel Kenneth Liow:
“The Singapore Armed Forces takes a serious view of the conduct and discipline of its servicemen and will take appropriate action where necessary.”
Ang has since been suspended by the Singapore navy till his case is over.
The incident is the latest in a series of sex scandals occurring on the campus of the Academy. Last year, an 18-year-old female cadet alleged that she had been filmed and broadcast having sex over Skype.
