Civil servants to receive mid-year bonus of $30 – $60 monthly

Posted by temasektimes on June 6, 2012

Civil servants will be paid a mid-year Annual Variable Component (AVC) of 0.3 month, said the Singapore government.

Division IV officers, including those earning more than S$1,000 a month, will get an additional increment of S$60 per month while Division III officers, all of whom earn more than S$1,000 per month, will get an additional increment of S$30 per month.

This is in addition to their normal annual increments which will benefit some 9,500 civil servants.

The government said it has taken into consideration the National Wages Council’s (NWC) recommendation to grant a built-in wage increase of at least S$50 to low-wage workers earning up to S$1,000 per month.

Any form of increment is a welcome act by the government. Is this the most logical thing to do at the moment when social problems of integration and job losses to FTs are at the front door of discontentment?

Is it enough to pay for the increased in Utility bills?

The hougang debacle for the ruling PAP despite the PAPie LHL, TCH and Tharman support for Desmond is showing some result in this upward revision of civil servants’ pay. It cld be the prelude, however, to another upswing in the humongous ministerial pay, paving the way for another leap in ministerial pay as things go.
