Peter Lim’s lawyer raised questions on charges

Posted by temasektimes on June 14, 2012

The lawyer of former SCDF chief Peter Lim Sin Pang has raised questions about the charges filed against his client.

Peter Lim was slapped with 10 charges of corruption on June 6 for allegedly obtaining sexual favours from three women in exchange for furthering their companies’ business interests.

His lawyer Mr Bala Chandran said the phrase “assisting to further the business interest” was too general and did not state specifically if tenders or contracts were involved.

Mr Chandran’s comments came after similar comments made by lawyers of former CNB chief Ng Boon Gay who was charged with four counts of corruption.

The ECP carpark oral sex incident where that man’s little brother got bitten off after a car accidentally ram into it, were you that man?

To convict, the prosecution has to provide irrefutable evidence. Just because the accused spoke well or favourably of a company cannot amount to “furthering the business interests.” It may be no more than his personal bias or opinion. Companies or government entities do not act on individual decisions but on group decisions. Otherwise we have dictatorships not directorships.

Making broad accusations is hard to convict. There has to be concrete evidence that can withstand the detailed cross-examination. That is the purpose of the trial.
