2 newlywed Singaporeans die in New Zealand road accident during their honeymoon

Two newly wed Singaporeans died in a road accident near Auckland, New Zealand on 15 June, said a statement released by Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) to the press.

Mohamed Mohamed Suhaimi, 26, and his wife Raihana Rashid, 25, died on Friday afternoon when their car and a Britz Rental campervan collided on State Highway 2, near Mangatawhiri.

The accident occurred along a stretch of highway on State Highway 2 heading towards the Coramendal when the car driven by the Singaporeans collided with a van.

New Zealand police said the accident took place around 1.20pm on Friday, at Mangatawhiri near Auckland.

The couple’s families have been informed of the accident and they have since gone to New Zealand to claim the bodies.

MFA said it’ll continue to provide all necessary assistance to the families of the victims.

  5. I think Singaporeans must realize that driving in narrow country roads overseas is not the same as driving in the streets of Singapore.

    Tour agents should remind them of this so as to avoid such tragedies in the future.
