The mastermind of an internet love scam, 22-year-old Alexander Soh Zhi Ren was sentenced to five years’ jail and five strokes of the cane.

Soh was charged along with his girlfriend Yap Siew Ting for threatening to upload the men’s nude videos if they did not pay up.

Yap allegedly stripped in front of a webcam to entice unsuspecting men to do so as well.

The pair extorted S$150,000 from a 22-year-old man and attempted to extort S$10,000 from a 24-year-old man.

Yap was also charged for shop thefts  (two counts), dishonestly receiving and disposing stolen items (two counts) and forging a cheque.
