Give credit to City Harvest Church for their work of preaching

Posted by temasektimes on July 19, 2012

I personally thinks that the whole saga on Ps KH and his board members in the CBT case has impacted the whole Christians body. It is not CHC that is hurting because the law of tithing is vastly preached in all churches. Many of the preaching on the laws of tithing like the laws of sowing and reaping either touch an greed and/or guilt by the quoting of the verse in Malachi “where the Jews were told that there were robbing God in tithes and offerings and the resulting curses..

Now what happened now is that many gave willing, some gave out of fear, whereas the laws of sowing and reaping gave out of the combination of all above and greed believing that God will supernaturally increase their seed. God does that to some and opened doors to many believers because of Christ and not because of any magic formula.

The perceived CBT on these CHC leaders will impact a lot of givers now because they will definitely question on the validity of the law of tithing that is being imposed on the Christians believers and on the accountability of the church leaders in managing the tithes and offerings received wisely.

I believe in giving to church’s works and to support ministries but not to give out of fear or compulsion or out of the basis that I want something from God i.e. that is for God to prosper me. This law is like binding God’s hand that if I give, then He will have no choice but to prosper me. If that is the case, all CHC members will be like their pastor staying in sentosa cove now wouldn’t that be the case?

Well, regarding Sun Ho’s album, it is definitely not suitable no matter how much claims made by CHC members that these were make believe and not real because as a Pastor she holds the responsibilities to be holy and also to appear to be holy (walking up right with God).

Whereas for Pastor Kong and board, the case is up to the judiciary system and it has nothing to do with all the emotional support by his supporters and/or the condemnation by his opponents. They are still innocent until proven otherwise.

But we should also give credit to CHC for their works in preaching and doing God’s work with the exception on the flaw of their laws of harvest.

Well said from a true christian who understand the words of God.Sadly to say, many were lost sheep looking for a pit fo fall into. The problem is that many heroworshipped their religious leader not knowing that he is just as human as anybody else.As a religious leader, he is supposed to spread the words of God. Asking people to downgrade their HDB’s flat so that he can stay in sentosa cove is something not many pastor can do! Asking students to give tuitions so that they can buy his wife’s album is not something anyone can do!.CHC is just like any other church spreading the words of God.The different is many $$$$ were dropping from the sky. To err is human. Human by nature is GREED!!!! Simple as that.By the way, justice is fair.

One thing is very certain , the amount of millions collected by CHC are from the members or ex-members of CHC and not from GOD. Where are these millions being spent and where are they today is the question in place.
And there must be accountability to those whom have saved and donated out of goodwill or fear or whatever ….. especially to those who belief and sacrificed for it. They deserved the TRUTH.

  7. Ron said

Never heard of a Christian chuch going bankrupt or closing down….whether mainstream or single church. Their do not have high overheads. Often they are wealthy because of donations.

So the Church leaders should discuss about the Prosperity Gospel as emphasised by certain pastors. It is time to discourage that so that the Christian flock are not confused and in discouraged. The message of Christ does not cost a cent. Give from the heart and those who steal from God will face their judgement here or after.

When did Jesus collect the tithe?
The only time He taught about the tithe was to the hypocrites..who were so carefull in tithing, they even gave a tenth of their mint and dill, but He rebuked them for ignoring the most important things of God.
Preachers using Malachi 3:10 is saying that their congregations are thieves like the jews in the days of Malachi.
Since tithing belongs to the Law of Moses, real disciples/believers of Jesus do not and cannot tithe, for the eating of the flesh and the drinking of the blood of Jesus, has cut all His disciples/believers off from God, according to the Law.So, for any disciple or believer of Jesus to practice tithing is to put themselves under the curse of partial practice of the Law.
Unfortunately, most do not know the difference between a disciple/believers of Jesus, and çhristians’, and fail to realise many çhristian practices goes against the teachings and practices of Jesus Himself.
If you read the letter of the Council of Jerusalem to the Gentiles in Acts 15, few realise that of the four things recommended by James the younger that was adopted by the Council..three goes against the teachings of Jesus directly. The writers drew in the Holy Spirit, saying Ít seems good to the Holy Spirit and to us..”The real Holy Spirit will never endorse anything that goes against a single word of Jesus..but many çhristian teachings and practices do, because many prefer to listen to men like James the younger than to Jesus.
How do you recognise a believer of Jesus? Five signs accompany them..they can drive out demons, speak in the heavenly languages, drink poison and pick up serpents and no harm will come to them, and they can lay hands on the sick and they will be healed.
How do you recognise a disciple of Jesus..they can do far more than a believer and they have paid the price of their discipleship….and they listen ONLY to Jesus, like Mary Magdalene.
Leave Mrs Pastor to Ms Magdalene to deal with.

Regarding tithing and acts15,you actually know nothing!!!Your bible knowledge causes your head to grow so big and heavy that you desperately need two necks to carry it.
By the way, could you please share to us about your prayer life ?How many hours do you spend on your knee daily ?

you didn’t answer the question..when did Jesus collect the tithe?
As for acts 15, the half brother of Jesus, James the younger recommended that , to make things easier for us gentiles, he recommended that we should be told:
1.not to eat blood..Jesus told us unless we drink His blood, we have no part of Him.
2.not to eat strangled meat…Jesus taught us to eat his flesh, his body was’strangled’ on that roman cross.
3.not to eat food sacrificed to idols…Jesus taught all foods are clean..it is what comes out if a man’s heart that makes him unclean.
Three of James’ recommendation went against the teachings of Jesus, and yet they were adopted. All three come from the Mosaic Law..which Jesus has fulfilled, and which is obsolete for those who are born again from above.
As for my prayer life..you should know that Jesus taught His disciples to pray in secret..as such, so that only the Father who knows what is done is secret knows how many hours I pray and whether I do it on my knees.
From your comments, I can surmise you are not a disciple of Jesus…a ‘christian’ maybe.
If you are, you would know , not to be rude and insulting..for the first command of love from Jesus to His disciples is “Love your enemies.” and as the apostle Paul wrote..”Love ..is not rude.”
A christian aims to live a morale life, with faith in God/Christ, hoping to go to heaven when he dies.
A disciple knows the moral life demanded of him ,is so that he can be trusted with the miraculous life needed to fulfill the words of Jesus and hopes to remain alive until Jesus arrives.
As for what I do pray..very little, I tend to spend most of my ‘none secret’ time in agreement.
I mainly just say..”Amen, Holy Spirit.”
Be blessed.Whatever Jesus has prayed for you, I say the Amen with the Holy Spirit
ps: yes, I have a big head..my nick name used to be ‘Dai Tau jay”

In Singapore, the accused have to fight to prove their innocence once charges are pressed. The balance scale tips more towards in favour of guilt, rather than innocence from the start. There has never been a corruption case (at least in Singapore) where the accused is acquitted.

I agree we should give credit to CHC for charitable works they have done, but is just human nature to remember negative events more than positive ones, and it is something that can’t really be helped because we are evolutionarily wired this way and this operates on the subconscious level. It’s just the way it is.

If I’m not wrong, I think the original saying is “It is better to be in a position to give than to receive.” rather than “It is better to give than to receive.” There’s a huge difference in the meaning though it sounds similar. And obviously, for an organization who wants to get funds, it’s obvious which of the two they would choose to preach.

Why should one give credit to anybody for proselytizing? It’s about spreading lies and untruths and ignorance and intolerance — a major step backwards into the dark ages. What good is it to get more people to believe in silly things like the invisible man in the sky? So that they be conned into giving money to unscrupulous con men who claim to be his representatives on earth?

City Harvest Church has issued a statement that they stand by the accused members awaiting for trial. My question is – if they are found guilty as charged or worst if they themselves pleaded guilty to avoid more digging out of dirt in the process of trial, what will the church do?

Will they still stand by the accused if they are subsequently found guilty or will they issue another statement to condemn their acts?

If they are found guilty as charged, will that alone makes City Harvest Church as a whole guilty because the church has claimed that they stand by their pastor and other accused.

The biblical King David has sinned and asked God for forgiveness. Peter has denied Christ three times before repent. Moses was denied to see the Promise Land for his wrongdoing. But they all beg for forgiveness and repent.

Kong Hee is a great man but he is not infallible. If he is proven guilty, will he publicly ask for forgiveness and repent? Or will he continue to rally his members via twitter or other means without showing remorse? We have to wait and see.

“Law” of thiting? It is NOT a law as it is volunteering up to you to donate or not. And there is NO punishment if you choose not to donate. To observe the Con Hee n group managed to raise so much money, one can conclude it is more psychollogical manipulation than divine motivation. The con man continues to lead the blind followers into the valley of certain depravation – personal poverty. His gang certainly reaping the money by their sinful deeds.

    Extracted from the bible 2 Corinthians 9 : 6 to 8

    Generosity Encouraged

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

In new testament, nothing mention about tithing 10%, It is about giving willingly any amount from your heart, for God loves a cheerful giver.

No where in the Bible does it say that “Christians” must hand over 10% of their Gross Income to the Church or …..It was specifically mentioned for the Jews to tithe 10% of their farm animals and farm produce for the Levities a conquered People….because they were not allowed to farm Animals or farm the Land…however it would seemed that Modern Organised Christian Churches have twisted the bible to satisfy their Greed….threatening the Sheeple that they will face the wrath of God and not go to Heaven if they do not pay 10% of their Income to the Church…
I fee sorry for the Sheeple……
Off course it is also argued that the Bible referred to a Period befor Christiandom…and if the Pastors and Leaders can gquote teh Old Testament…why not follow their morals as well where many of the Bible “prophets” had more than one wife? where Lot’s daughters committed incest with their father…
All said and done…it really is up to the “Believers” to part with their money so that their Church Leaders can lie in luxury on Earth.

First tithing is not a focus of the caseThe church will require to fund its operation. And tithing helps to cover such cost.

The focus is how the money is used and accounted for. As the church is registered as a charity or aociety, they are exempted from paying tax. It means that it has to be audited and money used must be for proper purpose. As a legal entity which enjoy a charity stature, it must oblige to follow the law of the land. This is the area that Pastor Kong and his group of directors will have to explain that it is within the law.

Pastor Kong and his wife is not guilty yet because the court process will have to be fully completed and a fair trial is needed. However, they should have been more careful with their lifestyle. Even if the high standard of lifestyle being enjoyed by Kong family were gifts by members, they should have taken care not to be seen more worldly and living too luxuriously. They live a lifestyle that is beyond meeting an average people need. They will have to justify in court that how these offering did not benefit them, but yet met the goal of the church.

CHC other pastor was quick to say that everyone is aware of where the money goes and these are approved expenditure. It has cooperated in audit and thus demand an apology for the accusation. This is arrogant. The authority has the right to audit and failure to cooperate is breaking the law. Failure at the audit is the result of this court case. One point is very clear, the money collected cannot benefit anyone in the exco member or family member.

I am not judging if they are really thinking outside the box and doing GOD work in a manner that many considered controversy.. I leave that to them and GOD. However, they are required to obey the law of this land.

As for tithing, all churches practice it. Not everyone gives either and some gives more. What this reminds us is that we need to be careful when it comes to money. There is temptation or misunderstanding like this case which can be avoided if we have proper check and balance.

A good analysis from a neutral point of view.

But to add on to it, most of the time in any financial fraud, the amount ‘squandered/embezzled’ away is always higher than the amount being prosecuted due to the fact of lack of evidence, conveniences usage (eg billing personal expenses to corporate account claiming it is for corporate usage or in CHC case selling Sun Ho album in the guise of supporting the spread of Christianity belief).

Hope justice will be served to those who manipulate/deceive other hard earn money.

Have you not heard: A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

    Gal5
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. 7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? 8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. 9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

Selling Jesus as a commodity, your prayers have no substance unless u give significantly, misleading the rich that the kingdom of god is awaiting them, you have corrupted the essence of Christianity ….Jesus never asked to tithe … Abraham tithed cause he wanted to show gratitude to god for the blessing bestowed upon him but god never made a commandment …only Moses did ..but god never said u have to tithe…,,,,,
