PM Lee exhorts Singaporeans: Remain OPEN to immigrants

Posted by temasektimes on August 8, 2012

Two years ago before the 2011 General Election, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong promised Singaporeans that he will be ‘moderating’ the inflow of foreigners during his National Day Rally speech.

Now, with the ruling PAP and its subsidiary party controlling all 87 seats in parliament, he is singing a completely different tune altogether.

Echoing his previous exhortations to Singaporeans to embrace the immigrants which the PAP has been mass-importing into Singapore, PM Lee reiterated again that Singaporeans must remain open to the newcomers in his National Day speech.

“We are managing the inflow to minimise the strains on our infrastructure and society. But Singaporeans must remain confident and open, and welcome those who will strengthen our team and help us and our children do better.”

He also called on the new immigrants to try to ‘integrate’ into Singapore society:

“For their part, new immigrants must make the effort to integrate into our community. They must acquire our social values, our cultural values, adopt our social norms and commit their loyalty and love to Singapore.”

As too many immigrants are admitted into Singapore within too short a period of time, integration is now an impossible dream with ‘assimilation’ a more plausible scenario, but the question is – who is going to assimilate into who?

One reason that integration with by FTs with Singaporeans is near impossible is precisely because their large numbers afford them the ability to form their own enclaves. Integration is unnecessary as all their needs can be met by their FT social support network.

The useless PM should just go ahead and import another 5 Million PRCs into Spore, this itself will end any integration problem.
      What do you think ?

    • Wicked Brain said

Precisely, integration is unnecessary as they can build their own network among people from their hometown.

Lagi unnecessary when, they might be waiting for a chance to migrate to another “better” country of their choice after getting our citizenship.

Why the need to integrate, why the need to be graceful, why the need to be courteous?

Talk is easy and cheap when you are at the apex; you are not affected by policies set by you. But the man in the street are affected and the country is affected culturally, socially, etc when our Singaporean identity is diluted. You may be a political sage but you does not stand for universal true in all theories as no man is infallible.

I’m established and my philosophies hold true does not always necessary reflect your wisdom. No man can be more right and dictate the destiny of the majority.

Wishful thinking. I can’t imagine myself not exploiting a country that bends over backwards to welcome me.

So what do you guys want any ruling government in Singapore to possibly do? Birth rates in Singapore don’t seem to be in the healthy range, the local population is not getting younger, manual jobs cannot do and every little thing not “favourable” to you, just complaint and complaint and make noise and make more noise. You noise makers, get the opposition in, I mean including yourselves, and see if you can do anything different from the ruling government. No need to waste time guys, as the answer is a clear NO, you too will get FTs into Singapore at speeds faster than light. FTs are human beings too. Like us Singaporeans. Give them a chance to integrate with us. In time they will be making noise like you and the cycle continues. Of course, Singapore moves on successfully this way. There is no other way. PM Lee is not wrong and he gets my vote for FT imports for sure. So guys, I have said it! Time to make more noise I guess. Go ahead!

NO, we have to say no to opening the flood gates to untalented foreign talent (UFT). The end result of such a policy is to depress ordinary wages of ordinary Singaporeans, and to pad the pockets of companies and the rich (who are investors). Of course, the ministers only think of hitting their KPI and getting their bonus on top of their exorbitant salary, so what is going to change?

Let’s continue to welcome true FT, as we have for the past decades without opening the floodgates to UFT. There is always room for real talent.

Once the floodgate is wide open, it is difficult to close it back.
Look like the only way to force it back in the most democratic way is through one man one vote, this is probably the only language that the ruling party will and can understand.
By then sgp is no longer my country, more than 50% of population will be foreigners, thanks to 60.1% voters in 2011.

Let us say the pledge loud loud to show the trash if they dare to kpkb ask for privilege above citizen, Singaporeans will not hesitate to unite together to tell them off! LET THEM HEAR US.

OK, talk is cheap. What do you do if they DO NOT integrate, DO NOT acquire our “social values, cultural values, social norms” or “commit their loyalty AND LOVE” to Singapore?

Before you took them in as citizens, did you check that they will do so? Why didn’t you? Who are you going to hold accountable for not doing so?

And what are you going to do if hundreds of thousands of New Citizens do not integrate the way you said you want them to above?

Talk is cheap. Show some action, then I know you’re serious.

Im neutral here. but the above statement It does sounds like moderating to me. Temasektimes editor got problem in understanding language? seriously…why stir shit ah, singaporean?

    • @Bubbs, where do u read that LHL is moderating? managing inflow means still allow more to imigrate. Our situation is like a glass is already full, any drop of water added will definitely overflow.

This is a good reason why we should vote for PAP, aka Desmond Choo. After we have destroyed the only viable Opposition, we would be left with no clear viable alternatives. Then we can be united as One Nation Under White! Cool right, TT?

Singaporeans need to be more broad-minded. This is from the Melbourne newspaper, Herald Sun today, Aug 9, 2012:

Top Chinese suburbs in Melbourne have 22% to 27% Chinese. Total number of China-born in Australia is 319,000. Melbourne has 91,000 Chinese.

Each year 23,000 Chinese migrate to Australia. A few thousand other East Asians also migrate in. Australian leaders do not need to plead for understanding. I see plenty of Chinese coming to this McDonald joint. I see Asian children in their distinctive green blaziers going to school.

Singaporeans should work with the government as it moderates the policy. Offer constructive suggestions. Singapore cannot live in isolation or it will risk retreating back down the economic ladder.

    • Rui Long said

      So how about this.

Singapore has more China-born people than in Australia. And I don’t need to teach you geography. We all know Australia is much larger than Singapore.

Of course Singaporeans should work with the government.. but the question is more: Will the government work with us?

    • Singapore Cock said

U idiot chee bye FT! Singapore how big and Australia how big?! Can compare apple to apple meh?!!!

      • Dr Ken MANSUKHANI said

Of course, social integration by any foreigner with a local like you is a grave sin. You have been to school right?

    • Naivety said

Please do not anyhow shoot & talk nonsense before thinking lah!

You are comparing Singapore with Australia and Australia is at least 50 times bigger than Singapore and only had 319,000 total number of China-born!!!

Do u know that we have more than a Million of PRC immigrants in Singapore currently just for one race alone?
Look before you leap & stop TCSS & rubbish just like those ruling Vampires MIWs!!!

Is he asking us to rectify their mistakes?

“Singaporeans that he will be ‘moderating’ the inflow of foreigners during his National Day Rally speech.”

Do not ever try to believe a single word Pimply LHL says as I hope by now all of you should know that he is the biggest & greatest liar of all times, right?

As the saying goes, “Once bitten twice shy” & the only recourse available to us is to vote these ‘vampires in white’ out come GE 2016…no 2nd thoughts & no need to think twice about it just simply vote them out once & for all!!!

Wow, the picture shows the face of a Pathetic Pimp in distress just like the daily sceanario that we often see in Geylang except that this guy is on an international & global scale pleading & begging for more & more immigrants & prostitutes (FL, Street Walkers & WLs) from all over the world especially from China, India & Philippines to come & settle in Sinkapore!!!!!

“For their part, new immigrants must make the effort to integrate into our community. They must acquire our social values, our cultural values, adopt our social norms and commit their loyalty and love to Singapore.”

They (PRCs) can’t even speak simple English, how to integrate into our community. And they expect we (Singaporean) speak their language…

  27. By Locals, For Locals. said

Almost every day, we have to tolerate foreigners/immigrants speaking their foreign language and accent loudly in public. Their behaviors are absolutely deplorable.

Singapore government should focus on re-education of foreigners wanting to live here.
