PM Lee exhorts Singaporeans: Remain OPEN to immigrants

Now, with the ruling PAP and its subsidiary party controlling all 87 seats in parliament, he is singing a completely different tune altogether.
Echoing his previous exhortations to Singaporeans to embrace the immigrants which the PAP has been mass-importing into Singapore, PM Lee reiterated again that Singaporeans must remain open to the newcomers in his National Day speech.
“We are managing the inflow to minimise the strains on our infrastructure and society. But Singaporeans must remain confident and open, and welcome those who will strengthen our team and help us and our children do better.”
He also called on the new immigrants to try to ‘integrate’ into Singapore society:
“For their part, new immigrants must make the effort to integrate into our community. They must acquire our social values, our cultural values, adopt our social norms and commit their loyalty and love to Singapore.”
As too many immigrants are admitted into Singapore within too short a period of time, integration is now an impossible dream with ‘assimilation’ a more plausible scenario, but the question is – who is going to assimilate into who?
