Khaw Boon Wan visits China’s Tianjin Municipality

Posted by temasektimes on September 21, 2012

Despite his busy schedule in Singapore, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan still takes precious time off to visit China’s Tianjin Municipality where Singapore is co-developing an ‘eco-city’ together with the local government.

Mr Khaw will meet Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo and co-chair the 5th Singapore-Tianjin Economic and Trade Council (STETC) meeting and will also attend the 3rd China (Binhai Tianjin) International Eco-City Forum and Expo (Binhai Forum and Expo) on Friday and Saturday.

The Binhai Forum and Expo is jointly organised by China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Tianjin Municipal Government and the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges.

Meanwhile at home, the prices of HDB flat continues to spiral out of control with a executive maisonette in Queenstown transacting at a shocking $1 million dollars recently.

Our minister making this trip out of his busy schedule to look for a cheaper fordable bike to improve even more productivity. He is really working very hard.

Yeah very soon only Pandas & PAPayas can afford to live in HDBs, besides, he has nothing much to do here just letting prices shoot through the roof, better go buy some HDBs in China when still cheap, later can flip for fast profits.

Do not blame Khaw that buyers are willing to pay $1 million plus for HDB re-sale apartments. They can pay $2 million too. Who cares. It is open market and has nothing to do with supply of HDB new flats.

TT needs to have an IQ test. It is grabbing straws and failing to demonstrate its intelligence.

How much TT is not a issue. The issue is what the impact is to HDB price which affect lots Singaporean.
To cow, 1mil HDB is not a big picture. That is why I feel his is lousy.

Is he going to China to help solve problems there or learn from them? Either way, there are much to do here and I think time will be better spent to fix our local problems on escalating cost of housing then go around visiting other countries.

Why are we throwing money into jt-venture ala Suzhou park or Tianjin eco-city or lose millions in Thai/Indonesia/India telco/port when we are so tight-fisted with our own people? We are making public housing millionaires in Pinnacle while condemning future generations unable to afford a roof cos’ it is beyond their reach, yet we have so much money to throw away elsewhere in foolish ventures.

Mr Khaw is planning to invite more of these “hard driving hard striving” foreign “talents” to push up our already very unaffordable flats.

What is HDB doing with Pinnacle-type housing? Isn’t its job to build basic cost-recovery public housing for majority of poorer Sporeans? Why is HDB asking an arm and a leg from Sporeans by their profiteering? Yes Mr Khaw – myopic boasts that PInnacles sold will make owners milionaires. But future generations will be condemned to forever unable to afford public housing because soon it will cost trillions per pigieon hole. China will have a hard landing and we are going into technical recession – the bubble will burst.

I personally observed that Suzou was set up by our leaders However just across the road the Chinese set up another industrial hub and charge its tenants half the price in rental. Thus attracting those companies from Suzou to shift over. We had played ourselves into the hands of the Chinese. I hope that we have learned our lessons.
