Defiant Kong Hee places his faith in God

Posted by temasektimes on June 27, 2012

Despite bringing his church into disrepute with negative media publicity surrounding his impending court case, founder of City Harvest Church (CHC) Kong Hee remains defiant and continues to place his faith in God.

Kong Hee was charged together with four other members of the CHC in the Subordinate Courts this morning for misusing the church’s funds.

The five allegedly diverted S$23 million of the church’s money to fund Ho Yeow Sun’s music career in the United States. Ho is Kong Hee’s wife.

They were also charged for another S$26.6 million of misappropriated funds, used to redeem “sham bonds” to cover their tracks.

In the latest post on his Facebook, Kong Hee wrote:

“Why r you down in e dumps, dear soul? Why r you crying e blues? Fix my eyes on God… He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God ~Ps 42:11 MSG”

He had earlier wrote that nobody can take away the ‘belief’ of those whose lives were ‘transformed’:

“Anyone can say anything but they cannot take away the belief of the countless whose lives were transformed as a result of the endeavour.”

He did not show any signs of remorse or beg for forgiveness from God.

let him taste a few strokes of the rotan and see if he is still defiant!

Kong Hee will make an ideal MP or NMP. Imagine how he can make parliament proceedings more enlightening. Actually he has more leadership qualities than LHL
and the outcome would have been different if only he had learnt to channel 90% of the donations to those in need. Instead of 25,000 followers, could have been 250,000.

      • Naivety said

        Yeap, totally agreed with you!

Imagine what will happen if KH were to stand for election as an Opposition MP as I believe no Pappies MP will dare stand against him as he will win hands down easily, right?

A person with the ability to convince & appeal to more than 33,000 believers & followers must be a very charismatic person, what do you think???

A CEO or political leader would have stepped down. Board of directors fired. But church members are sheeps by definition.

well he wants to play victim here. let him have his way a few more weeks, he would know what regret means. if convicted i hope the court would mete out the heaviest punishment to deter him from misleading his dumb people any further.

  5. WRONG IS WRONG NO MATTER WHAT, IT IS STILL WRONG AND NO GODS IN THE WORLD ARE ABLE TO HELP YOU. DON’T EVER BELIEVE YOU COMMIT WRONG FROM MONDAY TO SATURDAY AND COME TO GOD ON SUNDAY AND BE FORGIVEN, NO SUCH THINGS WILL HAPPEN AND DON’T CHEAT YOURSELF. ITS EVEN WORST WHEN PEOPLE MAKE USED OF RELIGION FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT AND TOWARDS THEIR OWN END .

Hey TT, I think you should refrain from posting the pastor’s Facebook tweets and comments. Pastor Kong is making comments on the basis of his personal faith. Its probably addressed to his flock too. Who are we as outsiders to judge whether what he says, as personal statements of personal faith, constitutes “remorse” or not? There’s a thin line between blogging on social issues and encroaching on religion and I think scooping out his facebook’s comments, posting it on TT, inviting (secular) readers comments probably goes a bit too far. I suggest you refrain from doing so and lockup this particular thread too.

Look, I’ve no problems with posting all the other articles (about the pastor) because these are from neutral third party sources, including news. You’re inviting readers to comments on a piece of news. Fair game.

And I’ve also no problems with TT posting some persons’ facebook comments and inviting readers comments too. While some may think this is borderline going too far, I think its still not crossing the line because the comments reflect a wider social issue or is a social commentary.

But doing so on a pastor’s tweets, I think, is going too far. What next then? Dissecting his sermon? Who are we, as secular outsiders, to judge, when those tweets or sermon are addressed to his own flock. Let his own flock make up their own minds. Its no longer a social commentary arena anymore.

Anyway, I write this as a supporter of TT — and I’d hate to see the govt, on the pretext of “religious sensitivity” — close down this site.

What nonsense. A tweet is by definition public domain. It invites comments and quotes. Please get off your f’ing high horse.

    • siao said

thats bogus reasoning. if you tweet, you’re in the public domain. you’re not in your church. just like the other guy who posted his videos on youtube kena called up by ISD. are you telling me its wrong to dissect his sermons? he was addressing his flock too.

    • He wants to convert as many as possible to join his church. For that, I think what he says need to be made known and transparent.

He has faked his way this far and he will continue to fake his way ahead. Faking or conning people is what he is good at. Regardless of how long he is jailed, if he is jailed, his followers will continue to follow him.

His followers will follow him to jail

    • Mike Zeng said

And u can bet your life that when he’s in Changi prison for say 10 years or so, he will continue to preach to his fellow prisoners and even persuade them to tithe 10% of their miserable meagre earnings to his Ministry….meaning his account. A leopard never changes its spots.

  12. I do not see the point of posting his after actions, no matter is on his personal facebook or his twitter.
We all knows, and God knows the BEST.
And right now, no matter what his doing. His merely trying to stir his followers emotions to support and protect him.

God gave us a pair of eyes, we shall see this issue in the eyes of God’s as well. Wrong = Wrong, there is no second way.
If this carry on, i believe and would not doubt this may evolve into a religion issue.
So shall we cut this away, and wait to see what will happen next?

Let him speak whatever he wants, it won’t help.
Whatever he says, wont do anything good for himself.

God’s Will, He knows the Truth better than any human.

Even God can’t save your soul. Plead as you may do, to have this kind of thought at the beginning, you are not only a disgrace to God, but towards the creations he has created and sacrificed for as well. Do you still call yourself a faithful believer of God? Who are you trying to kid? And who are you to judge on how the money given by the believers who love God and believe in you to be distribute in such a way? Faith in God is nothing if that is the advantage it will gives, for this faith is nothing but a sin.

Supposedly to promote Christanity to the Chinese crowd, by singing English songs in raunchy revealing costumes!
And all for nothing! After 5 years, she is a total failure!
And yet there are still church members who believe to he cannot possible have done wrong….who can’t get the shit wool out of their eyes. Well, let them donate more to pay for his legal team!

    Hebrews 12:5-11

    New Living Translation (NLT)

5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?[a] He said,

“My child,[b] don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t give up when he corrects you.
6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”[c]

7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. 9 Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?[d]

10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. 11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

    But I wonder why the CAD didn’t investigate the CHC earlier in 2002 when a CHC member Roland Poon Swee Kay publicly accused Kong Hee is fund mismanagement;
-maybe it was in 2002 Kong Hee was innocent since the charges are all from 2007 onwards?
-or Kong Hee cover his tracks well till no evidence can be uncovered?

Nevertheless, wish Roland all the best now that his ‘belief’ had been vindicated.

    He’s a “good” example of Matthew 7:15-23
15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’
23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Sheeple… you don’t need to quote bible verses to spot or predict a scammer.

Money is money. When you donate it to an organisation, make sure it has good governance structure. The scammer KH will ask you to donate first to avoid hell and not question further how he uses it.

  43. Priscilla said

He started out with good intentions.
But as the donations built up, the lure of all that money was too strong.
If he is sincere about repentance, the right thing to do is just admit to the massive CBT. And not look to God to help him cover up his crime.

  44. Faith said

If KH and the rest of the members are truly innocent, (if like what you mentioned they did employ lawyers), they should not even get lawyers as their trust should be with Jesus. When Michael Jackson stands his own accusation for child abuse for the final round, he did not even get a lawyer because he knew he was innocent & Jesus is there for him. He stood the case by himself and He won the case…Mmm…for this case if they really look for lawyers..something that we should reflect their credibility/faith/trust. Not for us to judge but something to ponder about….Let’s pray for them…

An unhealthy and dangerous trend is rearing its ugly head in multi-faith S’pore… i.e the MEGA religious institutions are no more just places for worship. They are becoming more powerful and wealthy and are runned like “business entities”, but without having to abide by the govt rules MNCs and companies have to adhere to. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kong Hee remained defiant just because he is fully aware that he has the backing of 33 000 members, many of whom are very wealthy and/or with connections in the right places. One of the lawyers in his legal team, is a PAP MP from a prestigious law firm, MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC Edwin Tong.
Even senior CHC members are defiant.. one of them even wrote to MP Chan Chun Sing to question the CoC for acting “inappropraitely”.
My point re. the dangerous trend : the head pastor of Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC) Lawrence Khong, chose to stir up emotions amongst his church members thru use of religion (invoking his god) especially when the CBT case against the CHC members is not even fought in court yet. Reminds us of the AWARE case when a Christian church pastor was warned for invoking his god in a National issue.
The govt should warn this Khong chap not to cross the line between a secular court case & religion. This precedent is dangerous..a spark waiting to ignite into a “religious fire” if not nipped in the bud.

If you take a close look at Reverend Pastor Kong Hee’s face you’ll find that he belongs to category 3.

even when King David in the Bible sinned against God he did place his faith in God still. the difference though btwn Him and Kong Hee, is that David admitted his wrongs and had a repentant and remorseful heart to God. He confessed his sin to God. And God in turn forgave him. Wish Kong Hee would do the same.
