‘Sex for tender’ exchange is pretty ‘common’ in the IT industry

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

Offering sex in exchange for tenders is pretty common in the IT industry because of the intense competition and high commission on the table, said insiders familiar with the scene.

The recent exposure of ex-SCDF Chief Peter Lim Sin Pang obtaining sexual favors from three women working in the IT industry may have shocked many Singaporeans, but the ‘hanky-panky’ businesses have been going on discreetly behind the scene for a number of years.

According to an IT engineer who spoke to a Chinese tabloid, his company lost out on a major IT deal ten years ago because its competitor’s team comprised of young slutty ladies.

“Our rival arranged for its sales reps to go on a holiday trip to Malaysia with the client. I heard the girls slept with the customers in the same hotel room, no surprise they clinched the deal,” he said.

Another sales engineer said the IT sales personnel are under heavy pressure to clinch deals as their pay depends largely on commission which caused them to resort to anything to please potential customers:

“Sales agents can get as much as 10% commission. For a deal worth $1 million dollars, this means a cool $100,000 in the pocket.”

In a materialistic society like Singapore where money counts above everything else, it is not a surprise to see career women offering their bodies in exchange for a quick buck or a climb up the corporate ladder.

Reuben Wang was ‘counseled’ by Saint Andrews Junior College before making ‘apology’ to DPM Teo

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

Saint Andrews Junior College (SAJC) student Reuben Wang who caused a stir lately by hurling profanities at Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean was ‘counseled’ by his school after his blog posting went viral online.

According to a friend of Reuben who attended the Pre-University seminar, he was a ‘quiet’ guy who kept a ‘low profile’ in JC and was surprised at his new found ‘fame’.

“Reuben did not say much during the seminar and appeared to be pretty much disinterested. I am quite surprised he later blogged about it,” he wrote.

Reuben’s blog was known only to a few close friends and it is likely that one of them may have tipped the school off after which he was called up for a ‘counseling’ session.

Reuben initially stood by his words, but capitulated after being ‘counseled’ by representatives from SAJC.

“I don’t know what happened, but he appeared to be in a state of distraught after the meeting.”

Reuben subsequently met DPM Teo together with his parents and apologized to him in person. His blog has since been taken down.

The entire fracas was turned into an ‘education session’ by the mainstream media which has jumped on it to remind young Singaporeans of the proper ‘online etiquette’ when dealing with PAP ministers and MPs.

A Singaporean’s experience of working in the Philippines

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

About 15 years ago, in my profession as a Researcher, I was sent to Quezon City. It was one hell of an experience. Even when I was working in Jakarta. I did not have to fear so much for my safety!

But in Quezon City, the boss of our research partner company even forbade me from going anywhere by myself, not even to the office which was literally a 5 mins walk from the hotel that I was staying in.

Instead, I was given a personal chauffer to take me anywhere I wished to go to. The boss even doubled up as my personal bodyguard when he was not too busy.

He told me that in Philippines, the number of women and children being raped are just unbelievable and many of such cases went unreported due to the cultural and social stigmatisation associated with rape act. What a sad country!

Nicole Seah pays respect to the late Dr Lim Hock Siew

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

Popular young politician Nicole Seah went to pay respect at the wake of Dr Lim Hock Siew two nights ago and praised him for his contributions to Singapore.

In a post on her Facebook, Nicole wrote:

“Went to pay respect to Dr Lim Hock Siew last night. The trials and tribulations he went through is unimaginable to most people in my generation. This is because the setbacks and challenges we face in oppositional politics today pale in comparison to what he withstood and survived back in his day.”

Dr Lim Hock Siew was a founding member of the ruling People’s Action Party and its splinter group the Barisan Sosialist. He was detained for 19 years without trial under the draconian Internal Security Act.

Nicole paid tribute to Dr Lim’s strength of character to withstand whatever his captors threw at him:

“Yet, Dr Lim had the gumption to brave the adversity and remained principled his whole life. The strength of his character, his actions and words has forged a path for many of us today. Through him, many of us have and will continue to learn about the alternative history of Singapore.”

Dr Lim and many of his ‘leftist’ communists were unfairly portrayed as communists and ‘trouble-makers’ in Singapore’s history textbooks, but with the internet providing an alternative information source, future generations of Singaporeans may come to see him in a different light and better appreciate his sacrifices for Singapore.

PM Lee on the future of Singapore: Good jobs will be scarcer, and unemployment will be higher

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

The future of Singapore appears bleak with good jobs becoming scarcer and unemployment rate expected to increase, warned  Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Speaking at the Economic Society of Singapore’s annual dinner on Friday evening, PM Lee said Singapore’s economy will experience growth slower than in the last 10 years as a result of a more developed economy, internal resources constraints and fierce competition from the region.

“Singapore cannot avoid slower growth in the next decade and beyond. This is natural because we are now more developed and we are also running up against land and labour constraints, especially as we reduce the inflow of foreign workers,” he said.

The slower growth will have repercussions for Singaporeans:

“For Singapore, slow growth will mean fewer new investments. Good jobs will be scarcer, and unemployment will be higher,” he added.

Despite the rapid economic growth experienced by Singapore in the last decade, social mobility has declined partly due to rampant inflation, sky-rocketing property prices and stagnant wages.

The situation is unlikely to improve in the near future as the Singapore domestic economy continues to be dominated by a few giant government-linked companies and foreign direct investments being diverted to other countries in the region.

PM Lee to Singaporeans: We need to remain OPEN and WELCOMING to foreigners

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

Despite rising public unhappiness and disgruntlement at the relentless influx of foreigners, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong continues to insist that Singapore must remain OPEN and WELCOMING to them.

Speaking at the Economic Society of Singapore’s annual dinner on Friday evening, PM Lee said there is no country in the world where the population gets smaller and incomes rise at the same time which mandates that Singapore have a continued inflow of ‘talent’ for continued ‘growth’.

“We need to maintain that spirit of being exciting, of being welcoming, of being open and adventurous… at a time when there are constraints to our size… when our population is growing gradually less young and therefore perhaps less adventurous… that’s the challenge,” he added.

PM Lee also cautioned that the Singapore government must strike a balance between raising social spending and taxes.

“As we enhance our social safety nets, expenditure will inexorably rise, and revenue must keep up. Surely within the next 20 years, the government of the day will need new sources of revenue, which means raising taxes,” he said.

Massive outcry against DPM Teo arranging ‘special’ meeting with Reuben Wang and his parents

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

A massive outcry has erupted in cyberspace against Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean’s unprecedented move of arranging a special meeting with Saint Andrew Junior College student Reuben Wang and his parents during office hours after which the teenager apologized profusely for hurting his feelings in a blog post publicly.

Reuben had ranted at DPM Teo for not dodging the questions posed by students during the recently held Pre-University seminar:

“The participants made it extremely clear they were dissatisfied with DPM Teo- and when we asked about our concerns which we do not know what can be done to solved, he will give the fucking ridiculous reply “What do you think (can be done)?”.

Though Reuben was only expressing his personal opinion on his personal blog, the state media soon picked it up, smearing him as a ‘keyboard thug’ to save the ‘face’ of DPM Teo who seemed pleased that he had won an apology from the student:

“I am glad he has taken the time to reflect, and recognises that what he said, as well as the way he said it, were wrong.”

Reuben’s sudden capitulation and public apology caught many by surprise with some speculating that he was pressurized to do so by his school or by other ‘agencies’.

Many Singaporeans were outraged at the way DPM Teo and the state media bullied a JC student into submission to extract an obviously forced ‘apology’ from him.

Jerry Hwang was absolutely disgusted:

“DPM is pathetic. Picking on a kid n his parents. Look, it is the general sentiment of the population. We were born free, free to roam n free to speak. When Low Thia Khiang spoke up, he got criticised. When the JC student vented his frustration, he get reprimanded. – there is talk he may be expelled? it is sad to see freedom of speech deprived in a 1st world country like SG. PAP should reflect on the culture they are inducing on the population. do you want thinkers or “shut up n conform” workers. if u can’t handle criticisms, u r not fit to lead.”

Bennett Teo posted on Facebook

“It’s an easy prey for him and thus he rather prey on a jc students (he has no choice becos his studies is a stake) then on the millions who scold him in media. What a “great” attitude he has shown, it’s equivalent to 下贱, lowly behavior. Trying to use a vulnerable student life to show his “greatness”.”

While some agreed that Reuben may be rude, they don’t think it is a big deal as Toh Tai Hoe wrote:

“Agree. It is rude but I think no big deal. They are behaving like olden days china where peasants gets beheaded if they dare to behave rudely to the emperor. Pap leaders are forever so obnoxious.”

When Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak gave a speech in London recently, he was heckled throughout by Malaysian protesters who hurled profanities at him, embarrassing him greatly in front of an international audience.

We are living in the internet age now. We have every right to express our views freely even if they may sound rude, there is no absolute right or wrong. Nobody has a monopoly to the truth and nobody has the right to impose their views on us.

JC student ‘fxxked’ DPM Teo saga: Are we having the best leaders for Singapore?

Posted by temasektimes on June 9, 2012

I do indeed applaud the bravery of the student who hurled strong words of abuse at dpm. to us all, the all powerful DPM deserves it, maybe with him and his party clutching by their tips at the seats of power, he probably has obligations to follow, every word he says can be used against him, and in such times of uncertainty, he has little choice but to try and bounce the questions back to the audience for fear of embarrassing the party and himself.

However, the irony of it all is that he has reflected to us his incompetence as a deputy prime minister, and really, if we were to continue leaving our beloved country in the hands of such people, then the future of singapore is definitely compromised.

They say experience is the best teacher, yet these people who have a wide pool of experience under their belts seem to have no means to answer questions that are aimed at them by the audience, and that is a rather petrifying thought to us all. could these men who are currently leading sgp have become incapable of giving wise opinions and answers in the heat of the moment?

The incompetence of them to provide even politically right answers under stressful conditions let us wonder whether its time to drain the old blood, and fill it up with a new generation of ministers that are able to be even more competent and efficient than the current batch of parliament…
