5 Choa Chu Kang families have NO ISSUES with pinoy drumming

Posted by temasektimes on April 17, 2012

The ‘pinoy drummer’ saga may have sparked a massive outcry in cyberspace, but Choa Chu Kang residents seem to be taking it in their stride, at least according to five families interviewed by a local English tabloid.

For weeks, a Filipino teenager Kenneth Milana (pic left) has been irritating residents living in Block 608 Choa Chu Kang Street 62 with his loud drumming and blast music despite repeated requests from neighbors and HDB officers to lower his volume.

He eventually ‘compromised’ by limiting his playing hours to between 12 – 1pm and 6 – 7pm each day, but according to one resident Chong Liling who posted on MP Alex Yam’s Facebook, though the playing frequency has decreased, the volume has gone up by a notch.

However, two neighbors who were quoted in the tabloid claimed otherwise.

“We all have the right to play what we want in our own home as long as we don’t break the regulations set by HDB.” – Valerie Ng

“We can put up with it. We are staying in a flat after all. We have to try to be understanding.” – Sapurah Suib

In an interview with the tabloid, Mr Alex Yam said he was concerned about the discussion becoming focused on locals versus foreigners.

“People assume it’s because of a lack of integration, but that is really not the issue here. This is about a noise disturbance that needs to resolved by people being willing to engage each other,” he added.

Just because 5 don’t mind this fucker, the rest have to put up with it?
Why didn’t 6 people vote for Opposition as well when 4 people did?

Listen those 5 people were interviewed by the main stream media.

If I were to hazard a guess, I would say that they are either grassroots people or party members.

Most normal people would be appalled by this noise.

wow valerie and sapurah… way to go… hope you both get migraines soon… sure its good to be supportive, but you can’t be supportive of people who need peace, people with small babies, people who are students and need to study, people who have elderly with headaches? you have to be supportive of a CHILD’S NEED TO PLAY DRUMS? its not even a foreigner issue, its about unnecessary invasive noise.

to be honest, if people other than these 5 idiots are too cowardly to speak up and give quotes, then must accept the fact already and cannot complain

Seems legit…. I guess PAPies ‘listening to people’ is like that listen. Begs voters to vote them, git elected and ‘过河拆桥’. 2016 and you’ll see.

Maybe those 5 are with the grassroots? Have to support their MP la.

  8. yes said

ALSO… how come the people who approve speak for everyone else, but the people who complain speak only for themselves? what kind of logic is this, PAP?

    • Emil Lam said

The propaganda machine will be out in full force soon, to demonise those residents who have justifiably complained about the noise.

It happened to the residents of Serangoon Gardens regarding the FW domitory, the conservationists regarding Bukit Brown and the residents at Woodlands regarding the elderly care centre.

A leopard cannot change its spots.

      • yes said

exactly, i do not understand what happened with the elderly care centre issue. i myself would vote for elderly care if it was proposed under my block, but it should come to a vote between people of MY block and only my block. if the majority votes AGAINST the elderly care centres, we should not have it full stop. i don’t see why people are going on facebook and voting FOR the centres when they don’t even live in those blocks? what is going on? where is the true democracy?

This is the kind of pathetic spirit that keeps Singaporeans enslaved to the current political system.

wow, 5 people representing the whole blk and the neighbouring blk in a case where MOST people will be irritated. Is the 5 people from the RC?

  12. muimui said

Maybe hdb or Alex Yam do a poll for the blocks surrounding Blk 608? Or they could even stay in one of the neighbour’s house for a day and hear the noise themselves.

Furthermore, the one involved in drumming is not even a young boy, but a teenage! A child may be unreasonable at times and may not understand social etiquette. But, a teenage definitely does knows the big saga that he’s created. Special child or not, the parents needs to instill good values in their child. From what I read, the parents just bochap and leave it to the teenage. Too busy parents? I dun know. Anyway, if the parents work, they wouldn’t be home most of the times and maybe that’s why they are unaffected.

I personally do not agree on this, but maybe giving them back a taste of their medicine may work in this case since the relevant agencies felt that noise pollution is a trivial matter. For one, noise pollution kills you slowly mentally. Not being able to rest properly affects your daily works and perceptions. For example, you cannot concentrate in work or studies and as such, you may not do well and this may lead to being laid off and getting bad grades. Worse scenarios will be long-term problems like depression (due to laid off or getting bad grades) and eventually suicide or mental breakdown. Also, accidents may occur while crossing the roads. May I ask who is willing to shoulder this responsibility? Mr Alex Yam, hdb, or the pinoy family?
