Tay Ping Hui defends Singaporeans: We are not asking for ‘doors’ to be closed entirely

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012

MediaCorp celebrity and Young PAP member Tay Ping Hui has spoken up again on the behalf of Singaporeans against the uncontrolled influx of foreigners into Singapore.

Despite the rising concerns among Singaporeans that they will soon be ‘squeezed out’ by the newcomers, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman insisted that Singapore must remain ‘OPEN’ to ‘foreign talents’ or risked having their competitiveness decreased as foreigners help create jobs for Singaporeans.

However, Ping Hui felt it is important to know who actually get the jobs. In a post on his Twitter, he wrote:

“When talking about job creation, It is not just about how many jobs r created. It is about what kind of jobs & who actually get those jobs.”

He also expressed a sentiment felt by many Singaporeans:

“Singaporeans r not asking to closed doors entirely. They r asking for d doors be opened only to those who truly deserve to enter our home.”

With the lines between Singaporeans and foreigners getting increasingly blurred, it is now difficult to judge who truly deserve to be allowed to enter Singapore.

Starhub discriminates against locals by giving ‘exclusive’ UEFA 2012 package to expats only?

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012

Is Starhub discriminating against locals by giving a better deal to expatriates only?

Under the Starhub Euro 2012 promotion, it does appear that expats get a much more ‘exclusive’ deal than locals.

Though both locals and expats pay the same price (Early Bird Price) of S$58.85 w GST for the Euro 2012 package, expat subscribers get a much better deal in terms of an exclusive football premium pack of their choice which is worth $50 which includes a portable fan, mug and travel bag.

Locals who sign up for the same package gets only a complimentary Adidas EURO 2012 Miniball, but only if they sign up for the English Supersize Pack as well.

Starhub has since removed the discriminatory ad on its website after it sparked an outcry among netizens.

Nicole Seah losing support among Christians due to public outcry over husband’s article attacking them

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012

Star politician Nicole Seah’s popularity appears to have taken a hit among Christians following her boyfriend (or husband?) Belmont Lay’s rant against them in a controversial article published by Yahoo News which left many hurt and fuming.

In the article titled “Why call the police over everything?”, Belmont Lay appeared to chide the Christian community for lodging police reports against the organizers of the ‘Escape chapel Party’, sneering at them for ‘making a mountain out of a molehill’ by calling the police when no ‘crime’ has been committed:

“First and foremost, I can never understand why people feel like they have to resort to calling the police, especially when no crime has been committed. If religious people are unhappy with secular event organisers, they should sort it out among themselves privately like adults.”

He ended his tirade against Christians by calling on them to leave the police out of such ‘private matters’ next time:

“As a religious person, let’s just assume you’re guaranteed the right to feel offended, although I’m pretty sure not everyone will agree with this….Next time, try to leave the authorities out of things….Especially the police, who should be better off spending their time and precious resources solving real crimes. Let a private matter between citizens be just that — a private matter.”

Belmont Lay’s insensitivity and arrogance towards the Christian community drew flak from even non-Christians, many of whom say they will now withdraw their support for Nicole if she remains together with him.

Some responses on Facebook

“For 131 years, the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus at Victoria Street was not only a home to the nuns, but a school and orphanage for girls. Even without briniging in religion, to allow the party to go ahead would have been an insult to these nuns, their good beliefs and good works. This guy just cost Nicole my support unless she proves that she is not like him. Respect others and their beliefs.” – Karen Heng

“The man behind the wife Nicole Seah is going to be him, I will spoil my vote! What a senseless, tactless guy!” – David Teo

“Nicole Seah will pay a price for her bf’s uncalled for remarks! I was so gungho in supporting her. Now if she stands in my Bedok area, I will NOT vote for her!” – Rodney Tan

There are no immediate replies from either Belmont Lay or Nicole Seah on the controversy. According to some unverified rumors circulating in cyberspace, they registered their marriage ‘quietly’ last year.

PRC man refused to pay cab fare and showed Indian taxi-driver his MIDDLE FINGER

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012

An Indian taxi-driver Bhai shared an unpleasant experience he had with a PRC passenger this morning on STOMP:

“I picked this Chinese National passenger from Hitachi taxi stand who wanted to go to a Chinatown hotel which is located near Bukit Pasoh. While I was driving in the right direction on South Bridge Road, he said to me that this was not the way to his hotel and told me his hotel is opposite Smith Street.”

The PRC man then used vulgarities on the taxi driver and asked him to stop his taxi:

“I stopped at Foo Hai building and he alighted from my taxi, slammed the door, showed me the middle finger and refused to pay the fare which was $7 plus.”

Two weeks ago, a PRC technician Yuan Zhengfa not only refused to pay his taxi fare to the airport, but hijacked the taxi and crashed it into a Malaysian cleaning supervisor, killing him on the spot.

Bhai should consider himself lucky that he is only shown a middle finger and not something else. Perhaps he should also ‘reflect’ on why he caused the passenger to be so angry with him.

DPM Teo tells Hougang residents: Desmond Choo is a very ‘good’ man

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean has heaped generous praises on the PAP grassroots adviser in Hougang Desmond Choo to promote him to Hougang residents.

Speaking to Hougang residents during an open ceremony of the temporary carpark at Hougang Street 61, DPM Teo described Mr Choo as a very ‘good’ man:

“Desmond Choo has been working hard in Hougang. He is a very good man. I hope Hougang residents can elect the best candidate to plan for their long-term future. I have worked with Desmond Choo. He is a very good and sincere person.”

(“朱倍庆一直在那里努力耕耘,他是一个很好的人。我希望后港居民可以选出一个能为他们长期服务的最佳人选,但最终选民要自己决定。不过我和朱倍庆共事过,他是一个很好、很诚恳的人。”)

DPM Teo also reassured Hougang residents that the government has not forgotten them.

“All of us are very concerned with the residents in Hougang. We do not wish to see Hougang’s predicament being repeated in other places.”

(“我们所有人都非常关心那里的居民。在后港区所发生的状况,是我们不希望在任何地方看到的。”)

Despite losing Hougang to Workers Party’ Yaw Shin Leong in the last General Election, Mr Choo continues to work hard in Hougang to serve its residents.

The seat of Hougang was left vacant after Yaw was sacked from the Workers Party for his alleged sordid extra-marital affairs with multiple women, including a party member who contested in the election.

While Hougang is left in limbo with the sudden departure of Yaw and the ongoing internal turmoil engulfing the Workers Party, Mr Choo has been serving Hougang residents faithfully during his weekly ‘tea-party’ sessions conducted at Hougang Community Club.

In the absence of WP, the number of Hougang residents seeking Mr Choo’s help has increased from around five per session before Yaw’s sex scandal to more than forty now.

During an election rally last year, WP Chief Low Thia Kiang promised Hougang residents that WP would never ‘abandon’ them. Less than a year later, they are left without a MP as Yaw simply left them in the lurch without even bidding farewell.

Angry Singaporean emails PRC designer 李振久 who called Singaporeans “PIGS”

Posted by temasektimes on April 7, 2012
