MediaCorp producer lodges police report against M Ravi for ‘threatening’ her a week ago

Posted by temasektimes on July 20, 2012

Prominent Human Rights lawyer M Ravi who won much public sympathy when a Law Society member divulged his medical condition in High Court in a desperate attempt to disqualify him from practicing law found himself in trouble again.

According to the state media, a Tamil current affairs producer at MediaCorp has filed a police report Mr Ravi for verbally abusing her during an interview with him.

Ms Vicneswary d/o Subramaniam alleged that this happened on 13 July. She claimed that while interviewing Mr Ravi at his office, he became extremely agitated and aggressive and shouted at her, using vulgarities.

For some strange reasons, Ms Vicneswary only lodged a police report ONE WEEK later after the fiasco in High Court.

MediaCorp is the only broadcasting station in Singapore and is wholly owned by Temasek Holdings, a Singapore sovereign wealth fund headed by Ho Ching, the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The Singapore media is ranked 150th in the world in terms of press freedom by U.S NGO Freedom House this year.

Doctor Ho Thong Chew jailed seven and half months for selling cough syrup wholesale

Posted by temasektimes on July 20, 2012

Disgraced General Practitioner Ho Thong Chew from Focus Medical Group has been sentenced to seven and half months’ jail and fined S$60,000 for selling codeine-laced cough syrup wholesale to three patients, far less than the S$266,800 he made.

The 41 year old father of two was sentenced on Friday, about a month after he pleaded guilty in June to the 35 charges. His clinic has been shut down by the Health Ministry.

According to court documents, Ho sold more than 800 canisters of the cough syrup to three of his patients which was in turn sold to codeine abusers.

Ho’s offences came to light after the Health Sciences Authority was alerted about the large volume of codeine-based cough syrup bought by the clinic in Ang Mo Kio between January and May 2011.

District Judge Christopher Goh said Ho was consumed by greed and was not as naive and innocent as he put himself to be during mitigation.

Disillusioned Aljunied resident: I will NEVER vote for WP ever again

Posted by temasektimes on July 20, 2012

When Mr Low Thia Kiang said during the election rally last year that the Workers Party will be a co-driver to slap the government, we Aljunied residents take his words for it and vote for WP, but now it seems like it is the co-driver who is sleeping and in need of a tight slap.

Why do Aljunied residents switch their support when their ward has been well taken care of by Mr George Yeo and his team all these years?

We support WP not because we believe it will do a better job than the PAP in running Aljunied, but because we want a voice in parliament to speak out against the government policies.

Yet WP’s performance so far has been most disappointing. Its MPs dare not open their mouths and question the ministers on important issues like the inflow of foreigners, rising cost of living, housing etc and only talk cock on completely irrelevant stuff like overseas voting, PSLE textbooks…

Why should I vote for the WP to ask such stupid questions in Parliament when the PAP MPs are fighting more for our interests?

Come the next GE, I and my family of five swear we will never vote for WP ever again. If this is the standard its MPs can offer, then we might as well vote for the PAP to get better benefits for our estate.

We want real opposition in parliament, not spineless ones who only know how to talk big during the rallies, but go missing in action for the next four years.

PM Lee: Bugis MRT worksite accident shouldn’t have happened

Posted by temasektimes on July 20, 2012

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has expressed his condolences to families of the two workers who died in the accident at the Downtown Line Bugis worksite on 18 July.

In a comment posted on his Facebook, PM Lee wrote he was saddened by what happened:

“Very saddened to read about the accident at the Downtown Line work site in Bugis yesterday, in which two foreign workers were killed. It should not have happened. My condolences to the families of the two victims.”

He also praised the Singapore Civil Defence Force for undertaking the rescue operations:

“Also, my sympathies for the SCDF firefighters who were injured in the rescue operations there, and in fighting the East Village Hotel fire on Monday. I wish them a speedy recovery. They and all who have responded to the incidents have served bravely and are a credit to the Singapore Civil Defence Force.”

Two workers were killed when the scaffolding they were working on collapsed on them as they were pouring cement into the mould.
