SMRT fined maximum S$2 million dollars for December disruptions

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

Train operator SMRT has been fined a maximum S$2 million dollars for the two major disruptions in December last year by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) which made Singapore an international laughing stock.

More than 200,000 commuters were affected during the disruptions.

A Commission of Inquiry convened recently found SMRT in breach of the Operating Performance Standards for the North-South and East-West lines.

It has failed, among other things, to exercise due diligence and vigilance expected of a public transport operator, and to maintain its network in good and efficient working condition.

LTA said it will donate the money to the public transport fund to help needy families.

Meanwhile, ex-SMRT CEO Saw Phaik Hwa, who was widely blamed for fiasco is now enjoying a new lease of life as CEO of Auric Pacific group.

British ‘FT’ jailed for kicking police officer after being detained for molest

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

Recruitment consultant Luke Raymond Chapman was jailed four weeks on Monday for kicking a police officer who tried to arrest him for a case of outrage of modesty.

The 31 year old British ‘FT’ was detained by 21 year old police corporal (Cpl) Amirul Haikal Khairudin along Raffles Avenue on 17 September last year.

He was reportedly acting in an aggressive manner and kicked Cpl Amirul’s leg suddenly when he was trying to bring him towards the police car.

Chapman also kicked the police car.

The prosecution said that Chapman had disregard for the law as he “blatantly hit the police” after his arrest. Chapman could have been jailed up to seven years, fined and caned.

PRC bogus engineer supervising building of 1,000 BTO flats

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

It is a well-known fact that some PRC nationals submit forged education certificates and qualifications to enable them to land a job in Singapore, but what is shocking is that there may be bogus engineers without any training in Civil Engineering supervising the building of flats in Singapore!

According to a tip-off we received from an anonymous source, there are two PRC bogus engineers who are currently working as certified ‘engineers’ in Singapore, one of whom is a ‘David Li’.

“David Li is a fake C&S Resident Engineer, without any relevant training in Civil / Structural Engineering. And the irony is, he (a fake) is supervising 14 blocks of HDB BTO flats (>1000 units). It seems that the system is not rigid enough.”

Our source added that David Li is a Singapore PR and has applied for Singapore citizenship.

Working as a Resident Engineer without the necessary qualifications and training contravenes the Building Control Act (Cap 29) Building Control Regulations – Fourth Schedule.

The above email has been forwarded to the following attached with the necessary supporting documents:

Building & Construction Authority
IES / ACES C&S Resident Engineers & Resident Technical Officers Joint Accreditation Committee
Professional Engineers Board, Singapore
Housing & Development Board
Immigration & Checkpoint Authority

Chan Chun Sing: Singaporeans must remain ‘OPEN’ to people from ‘different’ backgrounds

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

‘Integration’ and ‘open’ are the two new PAP’s buzzwords as a third minister after Dr Ng Eng Hen and S Iswaran broached the topic again to Singaporeans over the weekends.

With social tensions between native Singaporeans and foreigners rising to an all-time high, PAP leaders have been exhorting Singaporeans to accept the newcomers (by hook or by crook) to keep the volatile situation under control.

Speaking during a community event yesterday, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said Singapore will be able to integrate new immigrants in the coming years, if it approaches integration with the same spirit it has approached racial harmony.

“That will require two hands to clap, it will require fellow Singaporeans to remain open to people from different backgrounds,” he added.

Singapore has become a ‘rojak’ country of late as the government OPENS its doors WIDE to accept foreigners from all over the world.

Though integration has now become impossible with too many immigrants being accepted within too short a period of time, Singaporeans are constantly exhorted to remain open and ‘integrate’ (or rather assimilate) with them.

Foreign manager exerts pressure on pregnant Singaporean to resign from job

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

My wife, who is recently been confirmed of her pregnancy was been “Forced” to terminated by her “FT” GM. The whole issue is such that, my wife was admitted to 02 dayz in hospital and upon discharge 1 week resting on bed.(as advice by doctor). Her “FT” GM employer indirect hint to my wife to “resign” herself, saying she is under-perform, while she is a confirmed staff.

During her 1 week my wife shall rest, instead she go back to work, to clear the workers salary and to assit the accountant. Despite this, she was been under constant “hint & Pressure” to resign, although my wife still report for work.

We went to seek the MOM officer for assistance, but was told that no “termination letter”, MOM is not able to look into it further. So came that final day, my wife was been force to surrender all her duty, her office keyz and the employer did not even issue her the termination letter.

I call it Discrmination of Preganat woman in workplace. After that the company MD step in to compensate my wife, and ask her to sign a letter of agreement. Worst, offer her to work as part-timer. (What a joke). As singaporean, I feel we are screw by the System. Now , my wife is out of job, and during that hand over, the “FT” GM even force hurt my wife, we called the police, but there is no action, just verbal warning only.

May I ask the PM-Mr. Lee, how to have family planning? Due to extreme stress my wife is hospitalised now. (Baby is in danger). Period.

ALEX LEE

Ng Eng Hen to Singaporeans: Remain ‘open’ to ‘integration’ with new citizens

Posted by temasektimes on July 16, 2012

With too many foreigners being accepted into Singapore within too short a period of time which makes integration almost impossible to begin with, the government appears to be panicking with almost daily exhortations to Singaporeans to ‘integrate’ (or assimilate?) with the new ‘pets’ they have mass-imported into Singapore.

Foreigners now made up 40 percent of Singapore’s population with the demographics changed beyond recognition that even the newcomers themselves are astounded as well.

One PRC teacher blogged recently that she does not know whether she is in Singapore or China at times with the large numbers of mainland Chinese speaking in their various accents on the streets.

Speaking during a community event yesterday, Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen urged Singaporeans and new citizens to integrate with the rest of the community.

He expressed confidence that the process will be faster if Singaporeans remain OPEN and new citizens take the initiative.

“Integration is a two-way street. It takes two hands to clap. And so we have to be open, for those of us who have been here longer. And I think for new citizens, they also have to step forward. So if one side remains open, the other side takes the initiative, both sides meet together, I think that will make it much faster,” said Dr Ng.

Dr Ng’s call for Singaporeans to ‘integrate’ with the immigrants came less than one week after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s earlier exhortation for Singaporeans to ‘reach out’ to them on a personal level and at work.
