EXPOSED: Malaysian Tey Tsun Hang was a ‘White Horse’ in the system

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

Contrary to some rumors circulating online that NUS Law Prof Tey Tsun Hang maybe ‘singled out’ because of his fierce criticisms of the Singapore legal system, he is actually a ‘white horse’ in the system itself!

According to a tip-off we received from a former lawyer, Prof Tey knew many important and high-ranking people in the system and was given ‘preferential’ treatment.

Though Prof Tey was first called up for investigation by CPIB in April this year, he was allowed to continue teaching at NUS Law. Only after he was charged in court on Friday was he suspended from ‘active duty’ by NUS on the same day.

Professor Tey is a Malaysian and Singapore PR and yet he was appointed as a District Judge in 2001 after which he joined NUS Law School as an adjunct professor.

Our informant also made other allegations about Prof Tey’s links with some senior figures in the establishment as well as some other information about his personal life which we are unable to verify at the present moment.

Prof Tey was charged with six counts of corruption for allegedly showing favour to his student, Darinne Ko Wen Hui in exchange for sex between May 2010 and July 2010.

EXPOSED: Was Darinne Ko Wen Hui sabotaged by her ‘good’ friend?

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

The sex scandal involving a NUS Law Professor Tey Tsun Hang and his former law student Darinne Ko Wen Hui set many thinking on how the case got exposed after two long years.

Tey allegedly had sex twice with Darinne Ko in July 2010 and he was only arrested this Thursday.

According to a tip-off we received from an informant claiming to be ‘close’ to Darinne, she took her final year elective under Prof Tey and was part of the student team who helped prepare his book for publication.

Prof Tey was known to be a friendly, nice and approachable tutor and was often seen having meals together with his students, including Darinne at NUS, but nobody suspected there is any ‘hanky-panky’ going on between the duo.

Darinne apparently confided in a ‘good’ friend about the underground relationship she was having with Prof Tey as she felt uneasy about it.

Somehow the news got ‘leaked’ and CPIB came knocking on her doors before she graduated this year which led to her postponing her plans to take the Part ‘B’ of her Bar examinations.

It is believed that the same ‘friend’ has been sending anonymous emails to the media to further tarnish her reputation such as telling Yahoo News about her ‘flirtatious nature’ and the Chinese tabloids her ‘B’ grade after sleeping with Prof Tey.

Meanwhile, Darinne Ko has strenuously denied any corrupt intention or wrong-doing via her lawyer Subhas Anandan, saying that she would reveal the truth in due course.

AGC: No ‘link’ between Prof Tey’s charges and his academic writings critical of Singapore’s legal system

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

The Attorney-General Chambers has strenuously denied any links between the corruption charges slapped on NUS Law Professor Tey Tsun Hang (pic left).

The 41 year old faces six corruption charges for allegedly showing favour to his student, Darinne Ko Wen Hui in exchange for sex between May 2010 and July 2010.

Speaking to the media outside the Subordinate Courts yesterday, Tey declared that he would defend himself against the charges “fearlessly and vigorously.”

He also tried to portray himself as a ‘critic’ of the Singapore legal system though he is hardly as well known as M Ravi, Singapore’s foremost prominent human rights lawyer:

“I am known to speak up, amongst other things on the Singapore legal system. My academic writings are in good faith with no ill intent,” he said.

Tey published several books on the Singapore legal system, the latest being “Legal Consensus: Supreme Executive, Supine Jurisprudence, Suppliant Profession of Singapore” that was published in September by the University of Hong Kong’s Centre for Comparative and Public Law.

In response to queries by Bloomberg, the AGC said:

“There is no link between these charges and Mr. Tey’s academic publications and writing.”

Malaysian media: Underage Myanmar girls slipped past ICA to work as maids in Singapore

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

Underage girls in Myanmar have gone through Singapore’s immigration checkpoints using passports with false ages to work in Singapore.

The shocking news was reported by the Malaysian paper – The Star yesterday, but not picked up by the local media.

According to some agents and recruiters, some of the Myanmar girls were as year as 16 years old.

Four Singapore agents, who declined to be named for fear of being penalised by the MOM, said they had each been recommended a handful of women aged below 20 by a recruitment middlemen in Myanmar this year.

They suspected the girls were teenagers based on their photos. And their doubts were confirmed when the recruiters could not produce birth and education certificates.Myanmar maids make between S$400 (RM1,006) and S$420 (RM1,056) a month here.

The Philippines and Indonesia have also introduced more layers of checks to prevent underage maids from being recruited, such as issuing official identification cards for domestic workers.

There are 206,000 maids here, most of whom come from the Philippines and Indonesia. An estimated 10,000 are from Myanmar.

RI imposes gag order on students, warning them not to discuss sex scandal involving former female teacher

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

Singapore’s top boy school Raffles Institution has imposed a gag order on its students warning them not to speak to the media or discuss among themselves the shocking sex scandal involving a former female teacher in her 20s.

The state media reported two days ago that a former teacher in her 20s from a “top secondary school” in Singapore is currently under police investigation for allegedly having sex with an underage student who was a member of one of the school’s sports teams.

The woman was the teacher-in-charge of the team and was described by those who know her as ‘demure’ and ‘outgoing’. She is a married MOTHER of two kids.

She reportedly had sex with the male student more than once at the school and incident came to light after the boy’s parents lodged a complaint to the school.

According to an email we received from a RI student, the Head Prefect of RI sent a mass email out to its students last night asking them not to comment on the incident:

The female teacher has since left RI and she was described by those who know her as ‘demure, easy-going and approachable’ and was ‘well-maintained’ such that she appeared younger than her age.

The student who had sex with her is currently studying in Secondary Four and is reportedly the ‘envy’ of his classmates for having ‘shagged’ his teacher who is more than 10 years older than him.

Tey Tsun Hang as district judge in 2002: Onus on the male adult to exercise restraint, discipline and self-control

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

Disgraced NUS Law Professor Tey Tsun Hang who was charged with 6 counts of corruption for obtaining sexual gratification from his student Darinne Ko Wen Hui in 2010 once presided over a sex offence case involving a minor in 2002.

Then full-time NSman Yeo Boon Shiong was sentenced to six years and nine months in jail and ordered to be given six strokes of the cane by Tey for having sex with a 14 year old girl.

In his sentencing, Tey said sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14 is considered rape, even if she consents.

“The law is clear on this and ‘places the onus on the male adult to exercise restraint, discipline and self-control,” he added. (read more here)

It is an irony that Tey failed to practice what he preaches and got into a sexual relationship with his student. As a tutor and mentor, it is a shame that he did not exercise restraint, discipline and self-control and fell into a honey-trap which brings disrepute not only to his profession, but shame to his family as well.

PRC new citizen leader attacks Singaporeans for being ‘intolerant’ and ‘lazy’

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

With social tensions between PRC immigrants and native Singaporeans rising to an all-time high, one PRC new citizen leader has lashed out at Singaporeans for being ‘intolerant’!

In an interview with the New York TimesWang Quancheng, the chairman of the Hua Yuan Association, the largest organization representing mainlanders blamed Singaporeans for their ‘intolerance’ and said many were simply ‘jealous’ that so many Chinese immigrate here with money in their pockets.

“Of course, the new arrivals are rich or else the government would have to feed them. Some locals are very lazy and live off the government. When new immigrants come, they think it is competition, taking away their rice bowls,” he said in a callous manner.

Recent events such as a fatal road traffic accident caused by a PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi and an insensitive remark made by a NUS PRC scholar Sun Xu have incurred the ire of Singaporeans, fueling tensions between them and the PRC immigrants.

Though the major ethnic group in Singapore is Chinese, Singaporean Chinese are radically different from their mainland counterparts in every aspect – culture, language and mindset, a fact which was finally ‘realized’ by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong lately.

In an interview with National Geographic magazine in 2009, Lee’s father – Singapore’s paramount leader Lee Kuan Yew proclaimed that it is a ‘good thing’ that Singapore is welcoming so many Chinese immigrants from China as they are ‘harder-driving’ and ‘harder-striving’ than locals.

Complaint against PRC cashier at Jurong Point NTUC Fairprice

Posted by temasektimes on July 28, 2012

Xu Yuan Li

1. Should NOT have raised her voice needlessly at paying customers (I had purchased S$600+ of goods and services)

2. Insisted that I pay money to her directly for products I buy from NTUC Fairprice!!! Xu Yuan Li, PRC national said, ”快还钱!你还欠我 $六百!” (she does NOT own NTUC hypermart!) I am paying for the products, NOT paying to her!

3. Extremely Rude, not even basic courtesy extended to a fellow human being! Why is she even in the service industry?

4. Must not think she can get away with POOR service standards just because she is from another country, China.

5. Why should I accept the explanation that she is rude because she is from China? NOT logical! What has a person’s nationality got to do with being rude? NTUC FairPrice manager is not being fair here.

6. I had just booked out from a reservist training in a SAF camp and is already so tired yet she shouted at me!

7. Did NOT even give me a chance to check my purchases and kept pressuring me to pay up!

8. Later, after I realised she keyed in wrongly in her cashier computer, she also handed over 3 items that I did not buy and told me to pay for it!

9. Jurong Point is visited by Tourists too! What kind of impression is Xu Yuan Li trying to give to the world?

10. She did not even apologise for her poor attitude and even had the audacity to tell me to rejoin the queue at a peak hour! (8-9pm)
