Cabby’s daughter Stephanie Cheng cried ‘Papa Papa!’ for five minutes as his body was sent for cremation

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

Stephanie Cheng (pic left) had wanted to buy a cake to celebrate her Father’s birthday two weeks ago, but he asked her not to waste the money to do so and it turned out she will never have the chance to buy another cake for him again.

52 year old Singaporean cabby Cheng Teck Hock passed away on Sunday evening after his Hyundai Sonata taxi was rammed into by a speeding red Ferrari driven by a PRC man Ma Chi which appeared out of nowhere.

He leaves behind three children aged between 16 and 21 years old. His eldest daughter Stephanie just graduated from a local polytechnic and has put her plans to study in university on hold as a result of the family tragedy.

As his cold, motionless body was transferred from his wake at the family home in Sembawang to Mandai Crematorium to be cremated this afternoon, Stephanie was in a state of distraught, crying for his father for some five minutes during the journey:

“Papa! Papa! Papa!”

Her younger brother knelt down by the roadside and shouted a few times:

“Papa! Cross the ‘bridge’ carefully!!”

It is a Taoist belief that all souls will have to cross a bridge before meeting the King of Hades to be judged after death.

Meanwhile, the family of Ma Chi still has not offered any apology or compensation to Mr Cheng’s family as the state media continues to spin fairy tales one after another to glorify their wealth to downplay his reckless and criminal acts which have cost two innocent lives.

Passenger in Ma Chi’s Ferrari Wu Weiwei (吴薇薇) was sexily dressed in shorts that night

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

The mysterious female passenger in Ma Chi’s Ferrari Ms Wu Weiwei was reportedly sexily dressed on the fateful night when he crashed into a Hyundai Sonata taxi, killing himself and two others.

21 year old Wu Weiwei (吴薇薇) hails from the city of Wuhan (武汉), the provincial capital of Hubei province in central China. She just graduated from the East Institute of Management with a degree in ‘hospitality’.

According to media reports, she was dressed only in shorts and a low-cut blouse exposing her bra when she was sent to hospital. Ms Wu suffered a fracture in a right leg and is currently recuperating in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Her condition is stable.

Though Ms Wu’s friends claimed that she comes from a ‘reputable’ family in China, a Chinese tabloid reported her as working in a KTV lounge. It is not known how she got to know Ma Chi as none of his relatives and friends know her.

Meanwhile, netizens are having a field day speculating on what she might be doing with Ma Chi in his Ferrari moments before the accident.

“It is funny what type of crap excuse they can come out with…a girl who goes to nightclub to celebrate or something….lol….come out with something better…..and I have a question, why is she a survivor in an accident that left 3 out of 4 dead? Former senior Staff Sergeant jailed two weeks for abuse of power in having sex with hot PRC student cum KTV hostess

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

A former senior Staff Sergeant Lim Yew Chuan (林耀全) has been jailed for two weeks under the Police Act for two counts of abuse of power.

Lim was put in charge of a case involving a 29 year old PRC student Jiang Qing Feng (蒋青凤) and three other Vietnamese students who were arrested in a raid at a KTV lounge in 2009.

He was ordered by his superiors to give four of them a stern warning and deport them from Singapore. However, Lim only sent back the three Vietnamese girls and allowed Jiang to remain in Singapore on a student visa.

It turned out that Jiang had managed to seduce Lim and he subsequently had sex with her eight times at various hotels in Singapore.

The 32 year old Lim is married and his wife just delivered a week ago.

PM Lee and DPM Teo to Singaporeans: Do not blame all foreigners for Bugis accident

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean have weighed in on the shocking Bugis accident caused by a PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi, calling on Singaporeans not to target foreigners for it.

In a comment posted on his Facebook last night, DPM Teo wrote:

“Condolences to victims and families. Informed members that I’d told TP to be tougher on speeding/reckless driving. But shouldn’t blame all foreigners for this.”

His views were shared by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who posted his thoughts a day later:

“Agree with DPM Teo’s post about the Ferrari-taxi accident. Deeply saddened by the unfortunate loss of lives. My condolences to the victims and their families.”

The accident sparked a massive outcry among Singaporeans with many taking to cyberspace to vent their frustrations and anger at the government’s immigration policies.

According to Wikipedia, China has one of the highest road fatalities in the world with 445.9 fatalities per 100,000 motor vehicles compared to Singapore’s 30.4.

DPM Teo should consider mandating foreign drivers pass our own driving tests before being allowed to drive on Singapore roads instead of simply dishing out harsher punishments on reckless driving.

Former WP leader Eric Tan criticizes WP for not recognizing contributions of election candidates

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

A former leader of the Workers Party Eric Tan has spoken out against the party for their refusal to recognize the contributions of members who have contested in the General Election.

Mr Eric Tan led a team to contest in East Coast GRC in the May election last year, garnering a respectable 45 percent of the votes. He was also instrumental in bringing ‘celebrity’ MP Chen Show Mao into the party.

Despite his tremendous contributions and years of experience, he was sidelined by the WP leadership who appointed a rookie in his team Gerald Giam for a NCMP seat instead of him, causing him to resign from the party in anger.

In a comment posted on Facebook, Mr Tan wrote he felt ‘indignant’ at the way the party treated ex-candidate Sajeev Kamalasanan who resigned last Sunday after he was not nominated for a party cadreship.

“When I read about Sajeev’s resignation from WP, I felt indignant that party did not appoint him a cadre. The simple logic is that the criteria for the selection for candidates must be more stringent than cadres .Also in the case of opposition candidates , they undertake some personal risks as they put their jobs on the line and risk law suits. Hence the party must recognise and appreciate them for their courage and contributions.”

[Source: Eric Tan’s Facebook]

According to party insiders who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity, the WP leadership does not run on ‘consensus’ as publicly proclaimed and is dominated by the ‘Big Two’.

“It is very obvious that certain people are favored over the others. Dr Poh was with the party for a long time, but he was overlooked as a candidate to contest in Hougang,” he said.

Singaporeans speak up against media’s attempts to portray them as ‘xenophobic’ and ‘racist’

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

Singaporeans have spoken up in unison against certain media outlets for their feeble attempts to portray them as ‘xenophobic’ and ‘racist’ in the aftermath of the Bugis Ferrari accident caused by a PRC expatriate Ma Chi which led to three deaths including himself.

One of the victims is a 52 year old Singaporean cabby Cheng Teck Hock who leaves behind three children aged between 16 and 21 years old. The shocking accident sparked a massive outcry among Singaporeans with many venting their frustrations and anger online.

In an article published yesterday ‘Are Singaporeans becoming anti-foreigner?”, foreign-owned media outlet Yahoo News wrote:

“Online attacks on the Chinese expatriate who drove the Ferrari in a fatal Bugis accident on Saturday have underscored simmering anti-foreigner sentiment in Singapore.”

A poll conducted in the same article revealed that 79% of respondents agree that Singaporeans are becoming ‘anti-foreigner’.

However, some Singaporeans felt the ‘xenophobic’ label was cooked up by the media to sweep the real issues under the carpet.

Kelly Koh wrote on Facebook that Singaporeans are merely protecting what is theirs:

“We had a great kampong life, with friends of all races, sharing everything. Then “progress” came along. NOW, Singaporeans are coming together again, thanx to the dumb ass policies, its making us realise that regardless of race, language and religion, we’re the indigenous children of Singapore. Our parents, AT LEAST ONE was a Singaporeans. No, we’re not racist, we’re just protecting what’s rightfully ours, what our parents help built, and to protect what is RIGHTFULLY ours, for your children and their children.”

Ed Chan felt the media is attacking Singaporeans to divert public attention from genuine unhappiness on the ground:

“The state media and blind supporters of the ruling party love to use ad hominem attacks to win when they have a flimsy defense against genuine unhappiness on the ground. It’s easier to label opponents as xenophobic and racist than to face a legitimate concern. People complaining about depressed wages? Xenophobes. People complaining about rising cost of living? Xenophobes….”

With more and more foreigners coming to Singapore, Singaporeans will have to learn how to integrate with them so as to achieve a win-win situation for both parties.

Police: PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi (马驰) did not consume alcohol before accident

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

The police found no evidence that PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi (马驰) has consumed any alcohol in the night before the fatal accident in Bugis, said a police spokesperson to the media.

Ma was suspected of drink-driving and crashing his Ferrari into a Comfort Delgro taxi at a junction between Rochor Road and Victoria Street in the early hours of last Saturday morning, killing him on the spot.

The Singaporean cabby 52 year old Cheng Teck Hock and his Japanese passenger Shigemi Ito died later of their injuries in hospital.

The police claimed it ran blood tests on Ma Chi’s blood taken at the scene of the accident and confirm that it did not contain any substances which can cause him to become drunk.

The findings seem to contradict an earlier report by The New Paper claiming that Ma Chi reeked of alcohol when his body was extricated from his wrecked Ferrari.

Friends of Ma Chi had earlier told the media that Ma Chi was not a ‘heavy drinker’ and he preferred tea to alcoholic drinks.

Meanwhile, a key witness of the accident, the female passenger in Ma Chi’s Ferrari Miss Wu Weiwei (吴薇薇) is currently recuperating in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

She just graduated from the East Institute of Management with a degree in ‘Hospitality’ and is reportedly working in a KTV lounge.

Trains ‘stalled’ along North-South Line this morning causing many to turn up late for work

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

Less than two days after SMRT was hit by a ‘major’ disruption along the North-South line, commuters today are affected by another delay along the same line as a result of ‘track fault.’

According to angry commuters, the delay in service occurred at around 8am in the morning with south-bound trains from from Braddell to Toa Payoh moving slower due to track fault.

The delay caused many commuters to get stuck at stations further up north as they were unable to board the packed trains going south.

Lee Jia Hui was stuck in the train for a good 15 minutes from bishan to braddell and he finally decided to alight from the train and got on a cab.

Fairuz Hallisay found himself admiring at Nanyang Polytechnic:

“Stuck in front of Nanyang Poly towards AMK. The opposite direction train just went pass, smoothly.”

Alex Tan wasn’t so lucky though:

“There is a slight delay. I traveling now toward sembawang from admiralty. The public announcement say track fault. The train had been stopping at the track for a few times.”

Arthur Wong was stuck at Yishun MRT station and took a photo:

“This is the crowd. The train comes in 5 minutes. The one in yishun station must be huge.”

[Source: #Arthurwong]

As usual, there is no explanation from SMRT on the latest disruption in train services and the mainstream media did not bother report on the delay excepting updating its Twitter accounts.

Khaw Boon Wan attacks Yaw Shin Leong: He is utterly irresponsible and arrogant

Posted by temasektimes on May 17, 2012

PAP Chairman Khaw Boon Wan has fired the first salvo in the election campaign for the Hougang by-election by launching a blistering attack on disgraced ex-WP MP Yaw Shin Leong.

Before his fall from grace, Yaw was considered as a ‘protege’ of WP Chief Low Thia Kiang who has painstakingly groomed him for more than ten years to take over his place in Hougang.

Yaw did not disappoint him by winning Hougang easily last year as Mr Low went on to contest in Aljunied GRC, but less than a year later, Hougang was left without a MP after he was sacked by WP for his failure to address swirling rumors about his alleged extramarital affairs with multiple married women, including two key WP female leaders who contested in the General Election last year.

Speaking to queries from the media at the Nomination Center yesterday, Mr Yaw said it is unfortunate that Mr Low handed over Hougang to an irresponsible man:

“Last year, he moved on and handed it over to Yaw Shin Leong. Unfortunately, Mr Yaw got into trouble, disgraced himself and disappointed all the voters. And the worse thing is leave just like that without a word – not a single word of explanation or apology. I find that utterly irresponsible and in fact, arrogant, taking the voters for granted,” said Mr Khaw.

He also raised serious questions on the internal politics brewing within WP:

“It sounds very complicated and it sounds exciting too for people looking in. One by one, some resign, some get sacked for whatever the reason, some become unhappy with the leadership. It’s too complicated for us. For us, we come to politics to serve. So we have a common cause. So you decide what’s important for Singaporeans and as a party, we stay united.”

The Workers Party appears to be falling apart and imploding from within with a recent spate of resignations and missteps by party members which forced the usually quiet Mr Low to issue a public statement that the party remains ‘united’ and is in no danger of ‘splitting’.
